Default Trojan Battery - Trillium lithium

https://www.trojanbattery.com/trillium/

Look like they're marketed as easy replacements for lead acid batteries.

I haven't been keeping up with the drop in replacement market, but these folks step right up and say that their batteries are compatible with chargers that have an AGM profile. That leads me to believe, maybe incorrectly, that they will also function correctly with the OEM alternator in our vans.

I wonder about the claims myself, as direct drop in lithium for vehicles have lots of "ifs" even beyond the charge profiles. Below zero climates and hot underhood temps are examples.

Trojan has very good reputation, but 99% of their reputation was earned with their very, very, good GC wet cells, and other heavy use wet applications. Their original AGMs were not very good, from what I have heard, and I can't say on the new Reliant ones as they don't seem to be getting a lot of market in the RV stuff we hear about.

It does look like they've made it easy to switch to LFP batteries. (I'm assuming their BMS does the current limiting at low temperatures.) Float is even permitted at a fairly high voltage.

Note: It looks like the end user is responsible for limiting current when below 32F / 0C. From the user guide:

Quote:
Consult the appropriate data sheet for limits on charging current, particularly at temperatures below 32°F (0°C).
So almost drop-in but not quite IMO.

The battery itself has the following protection:

Quote:
The battery is designed to shut off to avoid damage if the internal temperature is beyond the following temperature limits:
Lower than -13°F (-25°C).
Higher than 140°F (60°C).
