Default Volta System High Idle test

As promised, I've run my sound meter and filmed my new van charging at high idle. You can set it to auto-start automatically at low SOC (~25%) or you can engage it "on demand". That's what I've done here at around 75% SOC. While it's more noisey than a normal idle, the tone is alot more pleasant than either an Onan, or my Honda generator, or certainly a Sprinter diesel. It actually sounds louder in this video. I'll run another test later parked over grass and see if it's more pleasant. All the noise is focused near the grill, so if it was running while you were sitting with friends under the awning, I don't think it would be all that offensive.

What I've discovered about the Volta system is that they are true in giving you 8700 watt-hours. That power is between 18% and 90% on the gauge. It will not charge above 90%.

Even the loudest reading near the engine is unobtrusive. Much better than an Onan generator.

Looking forward to further updates of you new Volta equipped rig!

Did you install the volta system yourself or had professional installation? I understand its a 48V system, what changes you had to make to your existing wiring? what about 48V inverter? Does it power air conditioner?

Really? Read the other threads on the Volta system and all your questions will be answered.

wincrasher has a new Winnebago Travato with Volta system. Yes it is a 48V system that includes a engine alternator, inverter and 12V DC-DC converter. I understand it will power the air conditioner.

Default FitRV system

Folks,
I follow these guys. In their Winnibago Travato, they have a lithium ion system. They have tips on Lithium Ion integration, straightforward but important in my view

Actually, that system is quite different than the Volta system. For one, the battery chemistry is different. Second, the charging is 12 volt. Third, their inverter will not do 30 amps (110v) sustained.

Theirs is similar to what you'd get in the Coachmen Galleria. Not a bad system at all, just not on the leading edge of what is now possible.

Default UL listing for these lithium ion batteries

Hey folks,

Do you know if the volta battery is UL listed? Apparently there are various UL listings like UL1973, UL2054. In this video, an engineer explains his point

Default UL1973 vs 2054

Here are a couple of links -

UL 2054 - Standard for Household and Commercial Batteries

AND

UL1973 - Standard for Batteries for Use in Stationary, Vehicle Auxiliary Power and Light Electric Rail (LER) Applications

The Coachmen Galleria's 12V system has multiple charging sources though, an advantage just in case one charging source fails.

Most all major brand B-vans, including those with Volta System, have three charging sources. 1) external 120VAC; 2) Solar; and 3) generator, either the van engine or a stand-alone generator.

Have you checked their website?
This should be posted on their website if the system is UL listed.
