Default Class B with hitch hauler?

Hi all! I’ve been hanging out & learning for a while here. I’ve learned a ton & appreciate the quality of this forum.

The wife & I sold our toy hauler this spring. We think we would like to try a B van.

My question is, are there any Class B’s that can realistically handle a 600 lbs motorcycle on a rear rack of some sort?

My initial thought would be, to install a receiver tube on each frame rail with a channel across them for the wheels to set in. I would not trust a single receiver in the middle.

It looks like an E450 or C4500 based van would be the best option but am unsure if this is correct. I am also unsure what, if any Class B’s are built on these chassis.

Thanks for your help!

Murf,

I'm thinking that 600 lbs is too much to have hanging off the back of most Class B's, Class B+'s and smaller Class C's. Too much stress on the rear AND then there is the "see-saw dynamic" of making the front end lighter due to the weight on the back. I would think that handling would be adversely affected.

I would recommend pulling your 600 lb. motorcycle with a Motorcycle Trailer. Just my thoughts.

Thanks for the reply, Dave.
I’m afraid you are probably right. I know it is the best way to do it. Pulling a trailer kinda defeats one of the main advantages of a Class B. I started out with a truck & toy hauler. I quickly grew tired of that setup. I don’t really want to give up the bike but I guess I will have to consider it.

Thanks again,
Murf

I'm in the same boat, have a 800 lb motorcycle. Most class b have a tongue weight of 200-500 lbs. I'm looking for a light weight, easy load motorcycle trailer now.
Good luck with yours.

Thanks Bill. Good luck with your search, too!

A trailer just limits parking so much. I was trying to find a way around it.

Thanks again,
Murf

Murf,
There is an item that only extends about four feet. Its called a dolly trailer and will hold up to 1000 lbs. What I don't like about it is the small wheels it has to carry the weight.
And it cost a nice penny.
I like the enclosed trailer to carry additional supplies and the motorcycle is out of sight.
Light weight fiberglass is the way to go, but also big bucks.

if the tongue weight is rated at 600#, would it work having a 300# trail bike plus the ramp, say 400# total? want to use the train bike for both adventure riding the trails and running to a store for supplies.
