Default Ascent lights

Morning,
I have a 2017 Ascent and the inside lights are are so bright we never use them. I watched a video that showed some of the newer versions having a light dimmer. Does anyone know of and aftermarket way of dimming the lights?

Incandescent, fluorescent or LED?
12 volt?

You just need a 12VDC LED PWM dimmer switch. Many are available. Search Amazon or SuperbrightLEDs.com. They are all pretty much the same functionally. Choose one that matches the aesthetics of your van. There are RV-style ones available.

There are two issues:

1) Most of these devices control the NEGATIVE lead to the LEDs. There is a pretty good chance that your coach is wired with the switch on the POSITIVE side, which won't work. If there is no negative return wire (i.e., if it uses a chassis ground), the job gets a little more complex.

2) If you need or want a 3-way switch (e.g., if you want the dimmer by the bed and also another on/off switch at the exit door), you need a switch with this capability. No big deal, just different.

There are also inexpensive dimmers that are controlled via a little IR remote. I don't particularly like this style, but it is an option.

If you need more help, give us details, including a picture of your current switch.

Subaru? OP has a PW Ascent (19' Sprinter based).

I was unaware that Subaru had something called an Ascent until this post made me look it up. It's their new 3-row SUV.

Might be worth a call to Pleasureway. Just because the lights are LED doesn't automatically mean they are dimmable (but they may be).

If using a PWM dimmer (as specified) you are very unlikely to have any issues dimming any 12VDC LEDs.

The "dimmable LED" issue applies to AC-powered LEDs, which require special electronics which may or may not respond properly to conventional dimmer switches.

LED could be annoying due to their color; I always chose warm white light which is about 2700 – 3000 degree Kelvin, close to regular incandescent light. At about 4000K and above they begin a bluish tint which can be irritating. Unfortunately, LED color can’t be change.

You could consider changing your puck lights with:

1. Pleasant color and lower wattage
2. Add a resistor to reduce power, some experimentation would be needed
3. 12V puck lights with remote dimming

I have a 2017 PW Ascent also.

The interior LED lights ARE dimmable.

Switch the rear touch panel to the light-bulb mode, and keep pressing each light switch until you get the brightness you want.

Bathroom lights, on the other hand, doesn't dim.
