Default Hello New Friends

Our Family just boughta 1999 Rialta 22HD! We are incredibly excited but also very nervous as we have no previous experience with RVs. We will pick it up in Indianapolis this Wednesday.

I know we will have lots of questions. Please have patience.

Thanks,

Simba

Hello Simba and welcome! I have the same model and year: 1999 HD. You can look around the site and see various things I have written. I enjoy these Rialtas so much and know quite a bit about how everything works and all the systems. Feel free to ask as REM also suggested. Read everything you can if you have the Winnebago satchel that came with all of the manuals. If you are missing anything we can help you. Hopefully everything works but if it doesn't don't despair; most things are an easy or inexpensive fix. Knowing how to use everything is the key. You should have the 3-way fridge. The manual will explain the best way to use it. (Turn it on electric or propane for startup). The DC feature is for use ONLY while the engine is running and ONLY after you have the fridge pre-cooled. Make sure you understand the Motoraid feature of the water heater and rear automotive heat. (The switch for the fan is over the drivers seat at the ceiling) The black rotary knob under the wardrobe door is for controlling how much heat goes through the heater core. The manuals aren't very clear on these things. Also, your shower is drained by the Power Drain switch under the mirrored medicine cabinet doors. Make sure that pump is working. It drains into the Black Tank and NOT the gray tank. The gray tank only holds 7 gallons of waste water so that wouldn't do well for showers. Luckily the Rialta's design of having the shower water to go to the black tank gives you enough capacity for about 4 (fast) showers. You should have two shower curtains included in your rig. They snap to the side walls of the expandable bathroom. Be sure to dry your floor well before putting your shower floor panel back in place or the wood will absorb and get damaged. Always check things like the TV antenna before driving off. If you are new to RV'ing be sure to leave the Black Tank valve CLOSED when you are hooked up to a campground until you're ready to dump the tank. The gray can be left open and the kitchen sink will drain just like in a house. If the black is left open, solids and paper can lay on the floor and clog the valves later. Make sure your LP gas monitors are working and your smoke alarms batteries are good. Also, make sure windows and roof vents are closed for highway travel. Running the generator at least once a week or once every two weeks is IMPORTANT! Read that manual for the starting and stopping procedures. Basically, let it warm up for 5 minutes before turning things on and then let it cool for 5 minutes (shut all systems off) before stopping. Check the oil level from time to time. Another hint with the Rialta is to make sure the knobs for the outside access panels (generator, propane, rear storage compartment) are actually engaging to lock them correctly. Many owners turn them the wrong way and they can fall open while on the road. Finally, always check your monitor panel to be sure you have not left the water pump on (little red light). The TV has an amplifier and 12v outlet port. Be sure that the LED is on when watching TV or off when not in use. This will draw power if you leave it on with the rig unattended. One final hint is to always make sure there is some water in the toilet bowl; even when the unit is in storage. If you let the bowl go dry the O-ring will no longer hold water and that is not fun. These are just some simple hints to help you enjoy the rig. There are many others but I don't want to make it seem like a long list of chores. It is easy once you get used to it. Takes just a few minutes. Enjoy and please let us know how things go.
