Question 1995 Dodge 3500 fuel tank filler leaking

I have a '95 Roadtrek 190. The gas tank filler tube on the tank itself is a pipe that passes thru a grommet in the gas tank wall. The grommet is pc 30 in the attached picture. The grommet leaked around the pipe and I temporarily fixed that with a tie-wrap. However the grommet is now starting to crack and leak itself. The grommet p/n 4279279 is discontinued, as is the complete pipe & grommet assembly p/n 5217755. Has anyone run into this problem and found a solution? I hope I dont have to get a new tank fabricated !!!

Rock auto has PN 5217578 for less than $10 which appears to be a direct replacement. The mopar replacement part is $12.34

Default My thanks as well

I don’t currently have this problem, but I do have the same vehicle, so I am grateful for this information in case I ever encounter the same problem.

Mine was leaking between the grommet and the pipe. It leaked about 3 gallons overnight while we were camping. My temporary fix was to put a tie-wrap around it. Luckily I usually keep a few for temporay repairs, like the time the windshield wiper linkage arm came off its ball joint . Tie wrap kept it in place so I could make it home through the next thunder storm.

I have a 1995 Dodge 3500. Mine was leaking around grommet also. Was Dealer only part. Unfortunately I put is backward and started leaking again. Bought another took to shop they put in backward too. Started leaking again. Finely found shop that figured out what we were doing wrong. Has been 2 years no leaks.
