Default 1997 Coach House Value

We just looked at a 1997 Coach House 192 KS Dodge 3500 chassis with 360 engine WITH 107,000 miles for $18,800. The price seems really high compared to NADA value of $11,300 retail, but we haven’t found anything much cheaper. Are Class B campers really selling for that high of a price now? Everything works and it’s it fairly good shape for the age.

NADA like Zillow for real estate is only a guestimate. When you consider that the RV is over 20 years old, 110 miles is probably normal. We bought our 1997 Pleasure way from my FIL in 2016 and it had only 45k on it. But, because of medical issues, it had basically sat, unused, for 12 years. It now has 70k on it.

Because of covid B-class RVs are selling at a premium price. I've read on this forum that dealers aren't dealing. It's a seller's market.

Like buying a house, I've read people saying that they probably paid too much for their RV but they love it and are happy with it.

Perhaps an offer in between askng and NADA?

Yeah, thanks GalenH! We tried a lower offer and no go! So we have a t@b clamshell that we tow behind a Toyota Highlander hybrid and we may just tough it out this year!!

It is a crazy market and people with older coaches for sale are getting what they want! It isn't just dealers!!

COVID will eventually taper off, but at this point I have to suspect that it will be affecting travel for at least another year or more. It's hard to say whether prices of B-vans will ever drop back to the old normal. I personally expect prices to moderate a bit once the leading edge of demand is abated, but I doubt we'll ever see pre-COVID prices again.

Maybe this isn't "the one," but I wouldn't halt your search until COVID is "over." I know this is a Class B forum, but there are some small, lightweight, self-contained travel trailers that are towable by a Highlander Hybrid. They're also in high demand right now, but having options is good.

Best wishes!

I'm currently on my 3rd 1990's Class B, and I've had them for about 13 years now. My first 1 was a 1998 Coach House, 2nd was a 2000 Coach House, and now I have a 1999 Roadtrek 190 Popular. I paid between $17,000 and $21,000 for them. Every so often, I look at ebay, RVTrader, etc. to check on prices, and from what I've seen, I've never seen one sold for the NADA value. I also haven't seen one sold for as little as $11,300 unless it had some serious issues. I've had my Roadtrek for 6 or 7 years, and I still see them selling for as much or more than what I paid for mine ($20,000). I recently saw the same year selling for $25,000. BTW, my first Coach House was totaled in a highway accident. I had had it for 5 years and had paid $17,000 for it, so I thought insurance might only give me $12,000. They went by what similar models were selling for, and they gave me $15,600. From what I've seen, I think I could probably sell my current one for what I paid for it. Personally, I think Coach House makes a quality RV, and I really liked the ones I've had. If the one you're looking at is in good shape, I think the price is reasonable.

About three years ago, we bought a 98 Coach House. It had also sat up, tires were dry-rotted, brakes were bad, and worse of all, the transmission had to be replaced. We knew all that before purchasing. We have put about $5,000 in it over the $11,000 pp. We couldn't be happier.

My hubby replaced all the fabric interior with vinyl. There were leaks. The only negative is that most everything is over 20 years old, but yea, it's paid for. Go for it if you see a good deal.
