Default A few of my winter projects completed

I thought I would share some of my winter projects and upgrades with you today, keep in mind that my Roadtrek is a 1997, so Im not so worried about drilling new holes and adding things, and changing a few things. I really enjoy working on it, and making it a little more personal.. I started by ripping out the old blue carpet in the rear, and under the toilet. It was old and nasty, I replaced it with a lanoleum flooring, from a discount end of the roll kind of place. The material seems quite thick and heavy duty, i think i was $1.50 a square ft., cut to size and glued down.it was an afternoons worth of work, but it really is much nicer, and easier to clean up, a simple sweep up and its done. Bring on the next project,,,,,,,,

My next project was to replace the old plastic cutting board that fits in the rim of the kitchen sink, I really never liked the light aqua blue colour, and it just really looked cheap. I am a hobby wood worker, so I decided to make my own, I has some walnut, cherry and maple pieces in the garage, so I just cut , shaped and glued them all together with a food grade non toxic glue. I really like the way it turned out. Finished it off with some butcher block oil. I did keep the small rubber feet from the old plastic board, mounted them on my new wood board, and it holds perfectly in the rim of the sink,.bring on the next project,,,,

A few quick projects,, were to add the 3-1/2" plasic pipe to the up front cup holders to keep the drinks from falling out, very easy to do, just cut the plumbing pipe in 4" sections, and they fit in perfectly, no more spilled drinks as we go around the corners..also added a small level to the top of it so I can get a quick reading of how level I may be when I first pull into the campsite.I also added shelves to the large cupboard up front, it had hooks to hang clothes from, but we never really used it for that purpose, I just measured and cut a piece of wire shelving, and mounted small brackets on the sides to keep them in place, much better storage solution for towels, blankets, clothes etc....

My next project was to add pull out shelves under the sink and stove, we always had to get down on our knees to get the pot or pan from the rear of the bottom shelves, so I built 2 pull out drawers on sliders, and it has made it much easier to get what you need. I couldnt build one for the far bottom shelf , as the water pump was in the way, and there would have been a large wasted space behind it,,I also mounted a tv/dvd player inside the large tambour door, We dont watch tv alot when were out, so I wanted it to be out of the way when we werent using it, I mounted it on a swing arm type mount, so we can watch from the front or the rear. I bought it from a trucking supply store, so it is fairly heavy duty, and handles the bumps from the road quite well. I also made a wooden double cup holder for the rear of the Roadtrek, I had a few water bottles spill on me, and came up with a little design that works for us, I just made it out of maple, and so far it works really well,,,,

And the final project I want to share with you is my fridge upgrades,, I had a few unpleasant experiences with my fridge , either losing power, and or losing food due to fridge not being able to keep up with higher temperatures. So I started by doing the modification of adding the computer fans to the rear of the fridge, to help with the air flow over the coils, I must say it has made a huge difference, in keeping the temps low, and getting the temps down much quicker. I didnt want the little fans running constantly, so I added a small on/off switch.sorry I cant find my pics of this mod, but I will pist them when I do. I also wanted to be able to see what the inside temperature was without opening the door all the time.I found a small digital fridge thermometer on amazon , it comes with a 12" wire with the temperature probe on the end, so I mounted the guage into the front of me fridge door, ran the wire down, drilled a small hole and passed the probe and mounted it to the inside shelf on the fridge door.sealedand caulked the hole, and really works quite well so far. I tested it for accuracy, and its right on the mark, you can choose Celsius or Farenheit, it runs on 2 small batteries, but this has been a real improvement on maintaing the temps in my fridge so far.......

You've been busy!

Love the new flooring & the cutting board is beautiful! I'll probably copy the drink holder idea - very clever. The shelves look great and the pull out drawers are so useful.

Nice upgrade re: the TV & the wooden cup holders in the rear is a good idea. We had a drink spill back there when I had an RT.

My fridge is very similar to yours. I've been using the wireless type thermometers. The batteries sometime don't last a season. I never thought of using the probe type - good idea. I have one that is not really used for much. It has run for years on the same batteries.

Thanks for sharing!

Everything looks awesome! I use Lacrosse brand indoor/outdoor thermometer setup with the outdoor probe in the fridge. No drilling required!

Default BBQ Table

I built a fold out BBQ Table on my rig that takes up only 1 1/2" of space and provides ample room for a BBQ and some table space, also added a propane outlet that is connected to the main propane tank so no need to carry any of those pesky little propane bottles, thus freeing up more space.

Has anyone else been busy working on their class B this winter, We weren't able to go away this winter due to some family health issues. So I have been out working on my Roadtrek whenever I can. So far I have been busy upgrading my water lines, added a water filternear the water pump, added a few 12volt plugs where my dear wife asked for them to be mounted for her electronics. did a good shampoo of the front carpets, really came out nice , replaced some of the vacuum lines up front in the engine bay, as they were old and cracked. went through and removed anything we had in there that we haven't used in the past year. We always tend to overpack, so it was nice to remove some things and free up some space,,,, and overall just dreaming about jumping in and going somewhere soon. I really miss our road trips,,,,,

We didn't get out since July when we decided to buy and build a new home and sell our existing except for some short trips. It has all been time consuming. We haven't needed to do any projects but the B has been great for home showings and having a place to temporarily put our cat in it.
