That's a video Advanced RV made when they were researching the first compost toilet ARV which they have since delivered. Other ARV customers are considering composting toilets.

I was in UK this last month, visiting a friend there who has a Euro style motorhome. Handling his cassette toilet is different than the way we do it here, but it didn't seem to be much of a hassle.

We haven't had a good Composting toilet discussion in awhile. It is always fun to watch some people squirm when contemplating more intimate encounters with their natural waste products. Come on people, didn't you ever change your kids diapers? You did survive that didn't you? A little poop mixed with coco fiber and a jug of pee is no big deal...

Yeah. And I've also survived quite a few encounters with cat-hole latrines in the woods. Doesn't mean that I'm looking forward to the next time.

I wonder if there could be a market for cassette toilets where one just drives up to a place and swap your full cassette with an empty. Quick clean process.

There is no way that I could pick the darn thing up. The tank would be beyond my weight carrying limit.

Well that got us rethinking our options. We have a Winnebago Era 70a ordered for late [U]August delivery and were considering having the composting toilet factory installed but that apparently would have to be done separately after delivery so we will probably wait until we get more input from some users of the compost toilet. Any input both pro and con will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

How would a composting toilet extend your boondocking ability? I find that my gray tank is just a long a pole in the tent as the black tank. If you need to go to the dump station to dump gray water anyway, what is the big deal dumping black water at the same time?

Saves perfectly good fresh water for things like drinking, instead of flushing.

Another application for a composting toilet would be in an expedition vehicle designed for extended camping in the wilderness away from anyplace to dump a tank or cassette. There are places where dumping grey water is allowed and some vehicles have a water purification system to recycle grey water or take water from streams/lakes. Disposing of the toilet compost is infrequent and can be done in the wilderness without any trouble if needed.

I agree if you have to dump grey water frequently at a dump station not much advantage for composting.

rented a van in Ireland with a cassette.

no big deal- empty daily at the campground and it is not very heavy- ours had dolly wheels and a handle for pulling

tank large enough for probably a week or so- no odors ever noticed

in terms of handling, no cleaner or dirtier than using the dump hose on my PW...gloves required

Most RVer's who install a composting toilet combine their black and grey tank to increase grey capacity. In my conversion I could have built any setup I wanted. I was excited to rid myself of a black tank and flushing toilet. I used Nature's Head aboard a boat for a week and really did not like it. So, I chose the Separett for my build. No smell or prep and cleanup. I just cinch the poo bag whenever I wish to dispose of it and toss in a dumpster. Urine is diverted to my 32 gal grey tank so no pee bottle to lug around like Nature's Head/Airhead. Plus I can use any TP or wipes I want. No clogs or macerators to worry about.

A friend of mine bought a Nature's Head composting toilet for his van. He eventually removed it and put in a cassette toilet, just because it was easier to find dump stations or lug the cassette into a bathroom to empty. Composting toilets are OK, but unless one has a lot of farm land and a compost heap, where does the waste go? Throwing it out on farmland might get the local sheriff involved because they don't really care if it was "processed"... human waste is human waste.

Yes, the partially composted poop / organic matter, usually inside a compostable plastic bag, can go into a dumpster along with other poop that is likely more of a biological danger including Depends with fresh poop and disposable baby diapers. Not sure why there is a big concern with this going to a landfill considering the volume of other stuff which will not decompose it is going to be mixed with.

After watching this video,
you might not want to have a composting toilet. LOL
