Default Help - Onan installation

HELP! I just purchased a used onan microlite. All the wires were cut (no, it's not stolen). I have 2 installation questions:
1. Do I need a dedicated battery or can I hook it to my aux battery in my roadtrek?
2. Is it better to hard wire the outlet leads to a plug or outlet box?
thanks for your help,

Yes - use the auxiliary battery.

Wire the generator outlet to the Transfer Switch.

Quote:
In a modern RV, all incoming power goes through a transfer switch, which is a device that keeps the different incoming AC power sources separated even though you may be plugged into shore power and the generator is running. You can only use one AC power source at a time. The transfer switch is normally installed ahead of the circuit breaker panel.

I think Onan has the installation manual online as a download. Their site is kind of hard to find things on, but that manual should give you all the info you need to install the genny.

Thanks for your help. I think I'm headed in the right direct. However, when cleaning the generator I broke the fuse holder and cap to get at spark plug, any suggestions as to where I can get replacements.

Tim,

You don't have your "Profile" information filled out; so we can't tell what region you live in. We can't offer any specific locations to send you looking for parts.

I just did a Google search for "Onan generator parts".

This link should help you with parts, and dealer locations.

Thanks for your help. I actually found all the parts from Sears. They were even a little cheaper than Onan.

Good to know that Sears can supply parts for our generators. Thanks.
