Question How tall is my 1997 Dodge Freedom Widebody?

How tall is my (new to me) 1997 Dodge Leisure Travel Freedom Widebody ?

I've been searching, can't find height listed in the specifications.

Recently widowed, this is my first motorhome. I plan to drive cross country, and don't want to try to go under an overpass/bridge that is shorter than I am. Appreciate any help you can provide.

New Owner, Congrats on your LTV Freedom. The 2003 (oldest posted on LTV website) Freedom brochure lists height as 8'9". https://leisurevans.com/downloads/

Might be a good idea to actually measure. Changes to the suspension or tires, as well as any optional or aftermarket roof appendages, might cause the current height to be different than the original spec.

If you or someone you know has a 4’ level, get a step ladder, rest one end on the highest point, hold it level out over the edge, and drop a tape measure to the ground. If you don’t have a long level, a 2x4 with a shorter level on it will get you close. Easier with two people.

Add 6” margin of error, and stick it on the dashboard somewhere handy.

My '98 LTV Freedom Widebody built on a '97 Dodge is roughly 8.5' tall. That is just a quick measurement made by eyeballing the top of the AC cover and dropping a measuring tape to the concrete. I forgot to check the air bag pressure, but I think I had it at ~30psi. For an exact measurement you will need to measure your specific van. The leaf springs in my van had sagged a little and I just added heavy duty leaf spring helper/stabilizers to the rear half of each spring pack. I also added 1.25" spacers underneath the air bags, and I'm riding on 245/75-16 tires which are a little taller that the originals. These things affect overall height.

It should be noted that 1998 was a "transition year" for the Dodge Vans. Major changes were made to the front suspension and front compartment. Ride height may well be the same, but??? The '98-'03 vans are still very similar/same in most/all other aspects.

Default Clearance

I measured mine at 8'7".

The only problem with clearance that you'll face is underground parking.

Just measure it. You may be surprised. Mine with the additional height of the Fantastic Fan Cover added about 4 inches above the AC Shroud.

Good catch ChicagoTom. A tarp that had been covering my AC was pushed forward and not taught to the roof. Out of sight, out of mind, I guess.

It really depends on what suspension and accessories you have. Reinforced suspension and tv antenna can alter the height and a margin of error is required. I park under a carport so the actual height was important.
Anything less than 9 feet I avoid a bump can be all it takes to cause an issue. If you go to a McD’s the drive through often has a height bar that you can use as a guide and get some fries with that. LOL
