Default Interior AC to a roof top?

We have a '99 American Cruiser & my husband wants to replace the broken Interior AC to a roof top model that weighs 100 pounds. Has anyone else done this with success? Will the roof handle it, in other words? Thank you.

Replace it with the original. Order it from any Dometic dealer.

Welcome to the forum Myrt!

My Chevy Express-based Airstream Avenue has a standard rooftop ac, but it was built for it. You'll need a sturdy enough roof, and clearance for the rooftop unit and a 14"x14" hole cutout. As you can see in pic#3 my roof has three drain holes forward of the cutout (still best to park slightly uphill) and in pic#4 you can see the plywood reinforment in the roof around the cutout.

Probably a tough call for your limited space. Whereas my roof was moulded to accept a rooftop ac from the factory.
