Default List of Ram Promaster based Class B Campervans

Ram Promaster Class B Campervans

Here's a summary of currently available or planned Ram Promaster Class B Campervans that I'm aware of from well known Class B van manufacturers.

Winnebago was first to offer a Promaster based campervan. Looks like two there are two models now, the Travato 59G and the Travato 59K.

Their website is: http://winnebagotouring.com/ and it has lots of info about the 59G but nothing on the new 59K as of the date of this post.

I'm not sure which company was second to offer Promaster Class B. It was either Great West Vans or Safari Condo.

Great West Vans named their ProMaster B "Classic" and it's on their website here: http://www.greatwestvans.com/new-model/

Great West Classic

Safari Condo's Promaster based Class B's are the M18 and the XL21. Those numbers refer to the length of the vans. The XL21 is also known as the Flex.

Pleasure Way was next to offer a Promaster Class B. Theirs is the Lexor. It is not on their website http://www.pleasureway.com at the date of this post but i expect it to be available soon. They do have a full brochure available here: https://gi118.infusionsoft.com/app/link ... e79423e3f2

Next up is Roadtrek and their Ram Promaster based Zion. This model was introduced at the same trade show where the Travato 59K was introduced. Nothing on their website http://www.roadtrek.com yet but I'm sure they'll have info up soon.

Gala RV - Montecarlo http://galavr.com/

I'm sure there are other Promaster based Class B vans. One that pops up in my searches is Morehead Design Lab http://www.moreheaddesignlab.com/

Great post. I wonder what Great West is doing with those wheels?

Those are just wheel covers over stock rims.

They look like the front wheel cover simulators off a Sprinter 3500. The design from the Sprinters mimics the profile of the wheel so they call them wheel simulators. In GWVan's case compared to the other Promasters they look a little puzzling.

There are three Promaster based RV's I'd like to add to the list:

Does anybody like composting toilets? The following two companies use them.

Eko

http://ekorvfun.com/

This RV uses a conventional two living space arrangement with a rear dinette/bed, with a middle wet bath kitchen, and front living space.

However, there have been some comments speculating if this company actually exists.

The SVO Group

Described in the Motorhome website
http://www.motorhome.com/rv-travel-news ... into-2015/

http://svogroup.server289.com/

This is a new manufacturer based in Elkhart IN. Their Promaster conversion has a rear bathroom layout with twin bunks similar to the new Travato 59K floorplan. The interior looks plush and they include a 6ft flip down patio in the rear. However, the bathroom looks funky with just a curtain for privacy and they do not appear to have signed on to trend for a low key unadorned exterior for “stealth camping”. The unit has big decals and prominent branding all over it.

The last company has yet to show up on our shores, but was reported to be planning to make an appearance.

Hymercar from Germany

http://www.autonews.com/article/2014012 ... .s.-market

http://www.hymercar.com/en/models/

What interests me, is their models include a popup tent sleeping area up on the roof for two extra people. Class B's often have the capacity to carry more than two people, but either made the extra sleeping accommodations awkward, or killed off valuable interior storage space. This solution seems compelling, because it preserves interior storage and provides an option for sleeping two extra passengers.

Is the HymerCar 322 also known as the Grand Canyon?

Awesome find re: the Embassy from SVO Group http://svogroup.server289.com/index.html#embassy

SVO Group: An altogether new entrant, SVO Group Inc. of Elkhart, Indiana, threw its hat into the Ram ProMaster Class B ring with the debut of an $86,000 Embassy B van at the Open House. The Embassy differs in that it features a rear-bath floorplan (with composting toilet), which opens up the living area. The motorhome also features a hydronic heating system and a 6-foot patio that extends off the rear.

Roadtrek Zion video linked above was deleted. Here's the new edited version:

[youtube:2d6vutwn]5tdsMEEXU5w[/youtube:2d6vutwn]

MSRP comments and delivery to dealers in Jan edited out. The purchasing dealers at the trade show introduction may have requested features or changes that would affect pricing and the press release http://www.classbforum.com/phpBB2/vi...hp?f=13&t=3395 indicates that they "will officially begin production in February 2015".

All the models listed above have their pluses and minuses. I really like this floorplan:

Hymer Grand Canyon

I think it would be useful for day tripping with another couple, travelling with kids, weekend trips to visit family, picking up friends or relatives from the airport etc. I'm a fan of twin beds that can be converted to king if desired.

We already have a similar floor plan in North America offered by Safari Condo: http://www.safaricondo.com/en/motorises_Promaster_FLEX

Eko Motorhomes is history. I think they were going to genuinely try to get a product out there... but didn't have the business savvy to be able to swing the Casita-like owner/dealer model. Especially with repair issues. It was also suspicious that they grabbed a picture of an European rig and mirrored it. I called them up and asked about their composting toilet, as they had a cassette commode pictures, and they mentioned a Nature's Head was what was used.

The Nature's Head toilet isn't cheap... but it is designed to be used in a building in place of a septic system, which makes the toilet cheaper overall... although state inspectors might ixnay it. New York State inspectors are OK with this and Air Head toilets, but they have to be on an approved list. Here in Texas, it varies by county, some counties demanding a septic system for any permanent installation no matter what.

A composting toilet would be a nice -option-, as for a true boondocker that would be out to weeks or months at a time, it would make it easy to deal with waste (although bags of peat moss to restart the compost reaction would have to be stashed somewhere in the van.) However, after seriously thinking about it, other than Sherwood, I'm going to either have FHU, or maybe a night or two dry camping, so a standard black/gray system is ideal for me, since there are a number of dump stations.

I watched the videos on the Nature's Head composting toilet and for the life of me don't understand it. They show you have to dump a tank of urine someplace meaning you have to physically carry a tank of urine! Next they show you unbolting and carrying a 28 lb. toilet plus the weight of poop and compost through your RV to the outside, pulling the compost bucket and turning it upside down and dumping in a bag. Then you have to carry that bag someplace to dump it. Then you have to carry it all back inside and rebook it all up. That's not messy? No thanks, dumping through a hose and pulling valve handles or hitting a switch is much easier.

I wonder how much of that stuff all gets dumped in bushes.

Here's the kicker. Normal use it appears after you cut through the BS sales pitch gives you about two weeks before filling that thing. No way is that "compost" in that time. That frequency is not all that much longer than a using a conventional dump station which with our tank capacities will be about a week. We never sit at one spot that long anyway. Dump stations are a 10 minute once a week or once every 4 days at most minor inconvenience of mostly time leaving a campground.

Maybe composting toilets would make sense if you were driving from Prudhoe Bay, Alaska all the way to Patagonia.

The Embassy looks interesting but I hope the graphics can be deleted. With every Class B manufacturer going to a more stealthy subdued look, they seem to have missed that trend.I hope they don't end up taking deposits then closing up shop ala the Echo people.Speaking of which.Does anyone know if anyone got their money back ?

If we start listing all the euro makers, then the list will get quite long, as there are many and this is the predominant platform there.

I suggest that unless they are importing to North America, these not be included in this thread.

As for as the composting toilets go, some people seem to like them in RV's, boats, hunt camps, etc. when the composting gets going, if supposedly works pretty well. The Wynns have a good video on it and are big proponents. The thing is, is, that you have to be full timing with it to work - it's not an on-off type of thing because if the reactions going on. It requires a vent to be drilled into the sidewall and a fan going all the time as air movement is key to the reaction. The killer for me is the pee bucket - they lost me at pee bucket.

priceless that's my comment on the turn of phrase, I don't know much at all about composting toilets.

And I completely agree, let's keep this list or topic about Ram Promaster based units available in North America. (Hymercar link can stay as we can explore that in another topic here: http://www.classbforum.com/phpBB2/vi...art=198#p23783 )

Yes there were some down payments made on the Eko that were lost. That first link in this thread about them was a couple that lost $7,500.

The thing about composting toilets and cassette toilets is they just aren't necessary in North America. Finding dump stations is just not an issue. Cassette toilets have been for the most part a physical location restriction issue for an RV and a cost and ability to install issue especially in DIY. The Promaster has a lot of European historical precedents that maybe provide a variety of enticing plans, but you can bet in North America marketing is going to narrow down to what the few converters think will sell and that will be a conventional toilet with tanks and most likely macerators because the Promaster is lower to the ground. Physically handling any kind of waste container is going to be considered unsanitary and an older customer base is simply not going to put up with it.

The Wynn's are young. They are probably strong enough to lift and carry 40-50 lbs of poop and toilet. They already had a fancy motorhome with huge tanks. If they installed a compost toilet I would strongly suspect they probably got comped and paid to shill it.
