Question Mouseproofing

Are there any Roadtrek owners out there who can share tried and true methods for rodent deterrent? We are the new owners of a 2002 RT 190 Versatile and want to keep it mousefree, even in our rural area where critters are abundant.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
I trolled the internet without conclusive results.

99˘ store has mothballs you can scatter these under the van, or do a perimeter.

these can help with rodents-

I have also tried chlorine tabs ( like for my pool)- these irritate the nose and can help

plug up the exhaust and the furnace vents

if you have to, traps can help- sticky traps, victor traps- I also use an electric zapper - about $40 on amazon- this is effective with the rats who eat my oranges

Dryer sheets work for some reason, maybe someone knows why, place them at all entry points, especially the cab air intake.

I use the 'tin cat' style traps (mice walk in, can't get out), put some poison bait in the trap and put one under the RV and one inside.

Put the outside one behind one of the wheels. The inside one next to any plumbing areas that penetrate the floor.

The outside one will catch most of them - if any do get in the other one hopefully will get them.

I have quite a few of the 'tin cat' style traps around the house, shop, RV's etc. You will catch a lot in the first while and then fewer as time goes on.

Dryer sheets are supposed to work as stated above. Don't know why either.

But then there are the people who report that the mice just use the dryer sheets for nesting material... and love the moth balls. Personally moth balls would keep me away. LOL Others suggest peppermint oil.

Many swear by Fresh Cab. I stored my rig on a farm in a barn for the summer one year. I just put a packet of Fresh Cab on the top of each tire... and one under the hood. I didn't get any rodents...

If you have a friend with a cat, some swear by sprinkling the used litter around under the rig.

I keep the hood open and a couple small containers of moth balls around the top of the engine (when it has cooled down). Then I plug the exhaust ports with clumps of a fake steel wool (I think it is a metallic coated plastic). Lastly I keep a couple bait boxes around the inside of the barn. I don't like the moth balls in the vehicle as the toxic residue lasts too long in the spring.

I've been using the electronic rodent deterrent and so far so good, use in my garage as well.

When I had a plane in a hangar here, your everyday country mouse wandered in regularly. I tried all the stuff, but the old tried and true is best: set spring traps around the wheels, bait with peanut butter, and throw out the corpses when you return.

I'm not a fan of the poison bait. They just wander off somewhere else and die, usually inside a wall. Smelly indeed.

I've had good success with Contrac bait blocks. I bought an 18# pail several years ago. The bait blocks are large enough so that rodents cannot carry it to a nest for future consumption which means they have to eat it where I have placed it. The poison dehydrates them and they typically go outside looking for a source of water and die there. I've never found a corpse inside anywhere and never smelled a thing. It is the same remedy that many commercial exterminators use, which is why I had to buy the lifetime supply (@$100).

Default Mouseproofing solved!

Thank you to all who offered such good advice in keeping rodents out of our Roadtrek. We will use a combination of suggestions so surely the mice will not feel compelled to check out our van.
Happy journeys!

Well we don't own a Roadtrek, but we did have mice. Lol
I'm sure they're about the same, probably. Lol Just Kidding.

We tried several things like the dryer sheets , they just made a nest out of them. Traps , more just moved in.
They were always nesting in the same place. Tried several home chemicals . Nothing worked. The van was parked for 2 years, and we only used it once.
What really worked was Dollar Store Mothballs. 4 boxes
Never had a mouse back since.
The van is now back in our driveway. It's not had mothballs in it for 4 months and ya I can still smell them mothballs. But no mice. If I ever find that Fresh Cab I'd like to try that.

According to The Google, it is available from Walmart and Amazon. I have also seen it at Menard's, Home Depot, and my local RV repair shop.

We use a combination of deterrents. Have the underbody sprayed with a mouse
commercial product. Ultrasonic devices, stuff steel wool in every place we can find an opening, a few drops of oil of peppermint on cotton balls and placed in drawers and in cabinets (must be reapplied every month or so) and mouse baits but we still get the odd one coming in, but no signs of nests and such.
We also remove any paper products and put any cloth in an upper cabinet.\
We live in the country so there is no way of totally getting rid of them
