Default Paint with "swoopy doopy" lines

When did the practice of painting RVs with all sorts of curvy slashes and dashes of paint begin? I've attached photos of some examples. I see it more on Class C and Class A RVs these days. I don't get the point.

Thank goodness, most of the newer Class B's are a solid color.

I think it all started with RVers wore those salmon or powder blue colored one piece coveralls.

Private coach conversions often had murals on the large blank spaces where windows "would" have been..cowboy and indian scenes were popular in the 80's...by the 90's alot of coaches had "swoops"
( for us touring guys, remembering which mural was on your bus helped find it outside the arena---in 89 our 3 coaches all had similar sunrise on the beach murals...we had the painter "rainmaker" come back and add 1, 2 and 3 seagulls to the murals so we could tell buses 1,2 and 3 apart.

by the 90's swoops were coming in.

and that has been adopted by the RV makers- who assume that "more is more".

the decals on my B are getting faded and at some point I'll pull them off ( and not replace).

A detail to break up the surface can be more pleasing to the eye.

one thing comes to mind is light coloured vehicles in the snow/fog--- easy to get hit- so some lines may help with that- esp if retro-reflective

I think the flat sides of those type units need some striping or maybe at least two colors to break it up. They'd look like cube vans otherwise.
Much easier to do single color on a Class B. They already have some style

The Class B vans in the past couple of years have gotten away from that swoopy look. Even Winnebago, one of the worst offenders, abandoned it on the 2014 ERAs.

To me, it looks like they forgot to stir the paint.

I think it looks just fine. It fairly screams: "Hey, I'm on vacation!"

At least the fiberglass sidings are coming from the factory in other colors than white. Even the plain beige or a gray is a lot nicer than the stark white.

As stated above, "B"s come quite well styled from the auto maker... any attempts to "enhance" looks can wind up looking gaudy.

The trend with true Class B vans is to go more stealthy. When you are touring and boondocking a lot you don't want to scream, "Hey, I'm on vacation!" With the small Class Cs maybe they need to differentiate themselves from the emergency response vehicles and ambulances.

Yesterday, I saw a Class A with loud pink and magenta swoopy doopy lines. I felt like I needed one of those emergency vehicles.

Elkhart graffiti always was a turn off for me. I never understood the manufacturer's need to do all that....

Most folks are in the "hey, look at me" camp.

But the manufacturers of the large RV's are really in a tough spot from a design perspective. There are really very few without the swoopy paint job, or worse, stickers. They just look like a big blob all one color.

This one is interesting - DRV used to offer the Trilogy with a solid paint job and one with a fade. Pretty large looking and imposing. Don't believe they offer it any longer as it's not on their site.

In my humble opinion, the problems with an ugly and uninspired design can't be covered up by swoopy doopy lipstick.

I hate those swoops. We were also happy to be able to buy a van that was silver gray instead of white. We park it in front of our house and it fits right in. We don't want to draw attention.

In some neighborhoods if you want to fit right in you buy a white B and stencil "Lou Handyman and landscaping" on the side of your van.

Styling trends come and go. In time the 'swoopy' paint will be looked upon with the same disdain as the '70s avocado and harvest gold colors. Thank goodness they got away from the " '50s Diner" vinyl interior styling.......
