Default Pathetic Sprinter Horn

The horn on my 2012 3500 Sprinter is a joke. It is weak and wimpy. I almost feel like apologizing when I honk it. Has anyone upgraded theirs?

upgrading a horn is pretty easy- you'll find horns at your local autoparts store.

some may require a relay- esp air horns.

some will just plug into place and replace your stock horn

a quick and easy job which if you are an electrical novice will give confidence.

complete kits from fiamm or wolo with a relay etc are available.

I have an air horn on one of my motorcycles, swapped the prius horn for a pair of horns from a 1980 volvo...have used 1966 Cadillac Fleetwood horns on another motorcycle....and a 3rd bike uses a 6 volt horn on a 12 volt system.

each of these is substantially louder than many vehicles on the road

in particular the stock prius horn was near inaudible- I;m sure if works fine in Tokyo- but it was ineffective if the person on the phone was wandering into my lane.

Not meaning to hijack this thread, just ask a question. Is there a delay between the time you press the horn button and the air horns sound? If not, what brand/model did you install?

No delay, the compressor is directly attached to the horn diaphragm.

this one is HD's own which has been good- there is a tube for the air intake and a little oil in the tube once in a while to lube the compressor.
part numbers: 69415-05A, 69000035

I tried a horn from howards some years ago it quickly failed.

for a car there are less expensive units with plastic horns- under $30 with relay and wiring

A pair of horns is likely doable without additional modifications. There is also Hornblasters as well, if you need real awakening power, but that might take a 12 volt run.
