Default Pleasureway hitch mounted cargo box

We have a 2000 Pleasureway Excel on a Dodge chassis. Will I be able to carry a cargo box on rear hitch?

you should be able to find the specs for that ( for instance my PW Lexor on a chev is 5000/500)

I have a harbor freight aluminum carrier- on my most recent trip I had a large home depot storage bin attached to it with a couple dozen self tapping screws. it holds our inflatable kayak and other stuff. leveling blocks.

total weight on the receiver is about 150

total cost about $110

I would say yes. Just make sure to purchase and install a class 4 hitch. Better to over engineer and anticipate hitch sag. Curt and Draw tite make decent ones.

If you have the factory PW suspension, etc., adding that weight to the rear of your unit may negatively affect handling. There is already too much weight behind the rear axle. I believe the hitch itself weighs 60lb. Add cargo to that figure.

You are correct. The hitch weighs about 65 lbs. Not much weight can should be added to the van. I added Sumo Springs and the Super Springs(extra leaf) and Bilstein shocks. After all of these suspension upgrades, the van drives much better. Although a bit stiffer, handling is more responsive.
