I've crossed the border numerous times and propane was never mentioned... either coming or going by either side.
Nothing was ever inspected.

Never been a concern for a manufactured motorhome ( many of which are CDN built) at the border
if you have a border crossing planned, the ArriveCan app is a time saver- in advance you fill out your vax info, which crossing you will use, date and time

ArriveCAN is still basically required, despite mounting controversy regarding it, with House of Commons footage featured on Twitter yesterday. People can get around using the app, but the alternative procedure is not really functional.
I've never been questioned about my propane tank. Everything else, yes. But not that.
EDIT: Just because odds are high that someone will ask, the controversy is because of accessibility issues and accusations of ableism. The disabled and senior citizens are among those groups who are perceived as being discriminated against because many are not able to navigate the app without third-party assistance. It's not a great app - I have used it. But I'm not stating a personal opinion here - just reporting what I saw on Twitter.

Only issues of concern for Canadian Border are guns (don’t bring them) and fruits and vegetables grown locally in Canada. Perhaps alcohol and tobacco if you bring too much. Your propane tank is of no concern.
Bring your winter clothes because we live in igloos and ‘Welcome to Canada’.

We camped in Newfoundland several years ago and got caught in a “late spring snowfall” towards the end of June.

The only item we had a problem in 2019 with crossing into Canada and then into Alaska was avocados. The border guard in Alaska confiscated our ripe ready to eat avocados. I think he was just hungry.

I just crossed in a pickup truck (no propane) and for the first time in decades of crossing, was asked if I:
- was carrying any guns
- owned any guns
- had a CCW permit
- had any cannabis or CBD
No questions about food or fruit.
I thought that was an interesting series of questions.

In a crossing back into Maine number of years ago we had a full case of wine and a number of bottles of whiskey. IIRC, The amount we had was more than what we could bring in duty-free, so I was fully expecting to pay duty. The only question we got about it from either side was “Is that good?“ i’m not sure what might qualify as “too much “but that certainly wasn’t it. [emoji1634][emoji485][emoji482]

Propane tanks are prohibited in the under water tunnel connecting Detroit to Windsor Ontario.

Prohibited or need to be turned off? Several times when entering tunnels I had to get out of the van and show an inspector the turn off valve and show them it was turned off.

Don't take more than $10,000 in cash without declaring it or you will be donating it!

That can be true either side...
