Default Questions about a Roadtrek

I am looking at a used Roadtrek 2002 Versatile. One of the reasons I picked this one is it has no rear doors. I think this is a plus and you dont open up your bedroom area when you need to access something in the storage area. Am I missing something here?
One thing concerns me is the dropped floor. It seems to be more of a step up at the back than some of the newer models. Does this cause any problems? Do you always trip yourself while trying to cook?
Is there anything else I need to know before purchasing this unit?
Thanks for any replies.

Is it a 200?

If so, I think you get a lot of storage space in the rear.

The transition step from the kitchen area to the rear never bothered me in my 190P.

Jardinier and Wilburleft on this forum both have 200's.

I think the 200 was built on a Chevy cab & chassis platform, not on the van platform like most Roadtreks.

The ride will be a little more truck like because of the shorter wheelbase.

The shorter wheel base will probably give you a tighter turning radius which is good.

The pass-through rear storage is a great feature.

The Roadtrek Yahoo Group is a great resource to check if you haven't already.

I don't know much about the model but there is one thing I always check for in an RV. You have to think what would happen if a fire broke out inside or somewhere on the RV. If you're sleeping in the back, is there somewhere you can escape from? Without any rear door, is there an emergency escape available?

My wife's parents are looking at RV's right now. They found one they liked but it had no way to get out of the rear bed area in an emergency. Safety if a big thing with me.

The RT 200 rear window is made to open in emergency. Has two handles you lift and the window opens to allow excape.

Another thing you should be aware of is the 200 body is wider in the center and causes a slight issue with seeing the rear corner in the stock mirrior. It ain't gonna happen. If you have someone stand at the end of the bumper and have their leg extended a bit as a child head might be looking around the end of the truck your not gonna see it.I bought extended mirriors and a rear view cam for mine but without the extended mirriors your pretty blind backing up. So to make it safer your looking at pretty expensive mirriors.Just my thought

Default Mirrors

Larry, thanks for the head up on the mirrors. I will look into the alternatives. I do have some clamp on camper type mirrors I can use in the meantime.
