Default Removing power sofa

We are thinking of removing our power sofa or the cushions on it, and replacing it with a foam bed. Has anyone removed the entire sofa or just the cushions?
How easy/difficult was it?

We did on our O7 C190P. Love it and wouldn't go back.

Agree with Booster that it is a good conversion. It is easy to pull the power sofa, "a wee bit" more difficult to construct something else. Our version (a bit more involved than Booster's) is in the files section of the Yahoo Roadtrek and Yahoo Roadtrek Modders groups (http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/roadtrek/files): look for Roadtrek twin bed.doc.

Thank for your responses. Booster your mod is fantastic, but more work then we are capable of doing. I was hoping that maybe we could just remove the cushions on the sofa and put a sheet of plywood over the top. How difficult would it be to remove just the cushions?

IIRC the cushions come off pretty easily. I think I had to remove them to get at the rear fill tube, before we took the bed out.

We removed the entire sofa in our 2012 Winnebago ERA. I built 2 free standing beds and we made 2- 7 inch multi layer foam mattresses. We would have left the electric couch in place if it would have actually laid totally flat, however, it does not so I removed it. Building the free standing beds was not a big deal and now we have comfortable beds with a lot more under bed storage. If you are not satisfied with your couch for any reason, finding someone to build you a couple of beds should be fairly easy.

Thanks rscheider for your response. That's what I would like to do, but my D H doesn't want to go that route for whatever reason. I'm hoping I can convince him to at least take the cushions off. He is not mechanically inclined and hates "destroying" something. I'm more willing to give it a shot.

But------Destroying is most fun part of it!

As Tom Silva and Norm Abrams say on "This Old House"

"You have to destruct to construct (when remodeling)"

I have to remind DW of that every time I rip something apart to make it "better"
