Default Spare tire carrier

Hi guys, I have a 97 dodge Roadtrek, and the spare tire is mounted under the rear of the van behind the gas tank, it is really difficult to remove a spare tire from this location, so i was thinking of mounting my spare tire on the rear of the van , I have seen the mounts that attatch to the rear door hinges, and it appears to be a much better set up,, has anyone done this ?, and if so, did it work out o.k?,,, please let me know, thank you,,,,

I have that setup on my 1990 Dodge B250 class B. Nothing sags, all is great. Of course, I let my grandson climb the ladder, but sure don't let him climb the spare tire!

later rt's have a genius sparetire mount which is essentially a modified hitch- something like that looks dandy, swings down to be a table if you want.

there are also spare mounts which will fit into a regular receiver.

my PW on a chev has the rear door mounted spare and I don;t like the way it moves or sounds everytime I close that door.

Sportsmobiles have the option of a bar (Trojan tire carrier) that the Continental-style carrier mounts on, which is part of the hitch receiver. This is due to Mercedes's build instructions of not to hang anything more than "x" amount of pounds on the door. It is similar to Roadtrek's layout, but it swings out, not down.
