Default Viceroy butterflies

A mating pair of Viceroy butterflies flew past us yesterday. The larger female was towing the male around. They settled for a while on our side deck.



You can see the coiled proboscis (feeding tube) on the butterfly on the left in the photo above.

Thanks! Zoom from about 6 to 8 feet away, cropped and then rotated and resized for forum.

They were actually oriented like this:
