Default Bathroom faucet and shower valve problem?

2000 HD. When I turn on the bathroom faucet, water comes out of the shower valve. Must the shower hose be connected to the shower valve in order to use the bathroom faucets, or is there a problem with my faucet? (Also, when this happens, the water from the shower valve runs down inside the back of the bathroom wall and onto the bathroom floor.)

thanks.

Your bathroom faucet in the Rialta is just like the one in your home. There is a plunger on the back side that you pull up to divert water to the shower wand. This plumger may be stuck, work it up and down a couple of times.

If water is running down the back wall where the facuet is located, it should drain to the "P" trap behind your sink to the black tank. If this is not happening, your drain may be stopped up. Remove the sink to get to the back drain opening for inspection.

If water is still draining down the wall, there is a gasket under the sink (across the whole area) that may be missing or loose letting some of the water missd the "P" trap drain.
