Default Roadtrek Storage Key

Hello,

Disaster! We have lost our exterior storage compartment key. We have tried locksmiths and dealer with no luck to get a replacement. Might someone know what key to get, or what you suggest we do? (the doors are locked)

We have a 2001 Roadtrek Versatile 200 (Chevy). We heard from someone the key might be a Trimark TM 911 but wanted another opinion! Thanks!

The only other option it seems would be to find a locksmith willing and able to drill/break them open then replace them with fresh locks. Any idea what kind/size of lock would work?

there should be a number inscribed on the lock.

and there are only a few key numbers...mine are 345 & 751

these are super-common and found in the cabinet hardware section of home depot/ace etc ( Rona/Lowes, home hardware)

the 751 is also used for locking drawers on my tool boxes at work- these locks are very common

these are cheap, easily replaced AND easily picked- check youtube on that

I believe those keys were tried at the dealer - the 751 is the most common it seems. There is no number inscribed on the (outside visible portioning the) lock.

I believe I’ve now found a good locksmith who can help me out...

Our exterior storage lock keys for our RT210 Versatile are labeled Tri Mark TM 911. We picked
Up a couple extra at our local locksmith.

Awesome, thanks! Out of curiosity, what year is your 210 Versatile?

Ok my wife heard from someone else on the Facebook Roadtrek site also trimark TM 911 works on theirs so we will buy one from the locksmith and give it a try. If it doesn’t work then we will bring the RV to the locksmith to get it picked and go from there.

The TM 911 did not work. It fit much better, all the way in, so it’s very close. Nothing else got remotely close. Maybe it’s a TM912! Off to the locksmith tomorrow.

I have a 2000 200 Chevy Versatile.

The keys supplied to me by the previous owner have a blank number of 180B on a Strattec brand key.

I did a cursory search and the blanks, while not cheap, were available on line.

Example:

https://lostakey.net/0500-key-code-c...oenig-p-144554

Look for the 15% discount code when ordering more than one.

No affiliation, just a Google search.

It appears that the same key was also used on Winnebago among others. Perhaps a large RV dealer near you may have blanks or spares?

Just go to a locksmith, they'll be able to open it and make you a key if they don't have one in stock.

I thought most outside storage keys on Class Bs were stock lock and keys. I remember for my first two Class Bs that had outside storage locks the key was labeled "No. 2" the same as just about every Class B from the companies. I just thought they were to keep casual non RV owners out since I carried cheap, dirty gloves and hoses there.

I could have gone to an RV dealer to replace the key if I had to. Maybe a Roadtrek dealer could help.

I did go to our local Roadtrek dealer. They tried probably a dozen different keys and none worked, not even close. At least both keys suggested here went all the way in. Found a good locksmith and am hoping for the best!

Success at the locksmith! $50 for Strattec 183B. If anyone wants a free Trimark TM 911 or Strattec 180B key and are in Ottawa let me know.

$50 cdn is a cheap price for this ordeal!

I have spare aux keys concealed inside the van and a spare ignition key well concealed behind the exterior fridge cover

when I was a toddler our car keys were lost in the sand and Dad had to hitchhike home for spare keys (in his bathing suit) and get neighbor to drive him back while we waited.

never discovered who was to blame, but my parents stopped using the shakey keys thing with young kids

( It may have been me)

Dad forever kept a spare key concealed on our cars, me too.

Wow quite a story! Yes $50 was a bargain. I was almost expecting to pay $300-500 to drill them out and replace all 6 locks.

We tried this get a copy of these keys last summer but some places, like hardware type stores, we went to couldn’t copy that kind of key. Now we have two copies of the key as well as the code worst case scenario.

Now that you have opened your compartment, the best thing to then do is to replace these locks with a good quality barrel lock, and be sure that you have a very well hidden spare key or two for it. These are much, much harder to pick, and your original locks, besides oftentimes using a very standard key and cut, are ridiculously easy to pick, needing only a couple of paperclips, or just one and a small screwdriver and usually (but not always of course) a few minutes of your time. I kid you not!
