Blocking for awning older Roadtreks

Is the blocking installed by default to mount a awing or is it only added when it was ordered. How can it be located inorder to mount a awning on one that does not currently have one.

BTW we have used our awning exactly twice... If we didn't have one, I wouldn't lay out a bunch of cash to get one
We try to camp where we ( the van) are shaded from the sun

I did search for a post about this but didn't find one, do you know where it is by chance?
I do not yet have a Roadtrek but have been looking for sometime, there are some for sale that do not have a awning, I personally could do without one but my wife would differ. I don't want to buy one without if it comes to having to install if it can not be done.
Btw see by your member name you are, I am assuming, play guitar. What genre you into?

... a power awning is more stuff to break and a class B is all about managing energy use- you won't always be on shore power.


My van ( 2006 Pleasure Way Lexor on a chev...similar in size to a R/T pop 190) has a Fiamma F45i- it is well engineered and I can get it in & out by myself - but help of spouse is much better.


needs to be stowed if windy
if breezy, legs should attach to van ( so the both move together, not stressing the awning as it may with legs to ground
...speaking of legs- walking into them make for a 3 stooges moment


I work as a tech and tour working on gtrs and amps- 42 years in I can say with confidence I have worked for some of your favorite artists.
when I'm off tour, planes and hotels are not my idea of a vaca- we camp.
I have a couple of instruments I can stow behinds the drivers seat- the largest being a martin backpacker or a steinberger, often a uke or mando is stashed there ( hauling a jumbo isn't fun for the space it chews up unless I'm alone)

This response doesn't address the original question. The supports are mounted on the outside. It doesn't say anything about blocking on the interior.

I asked them specifally if there was blocking in place, which I am assuming are wood blocks to screw lag bolts into through the install brackets. If that is what they are regarding as supports I can not tell. The backing plates you mention will have to be installed from the inside. I would have taken that route however it would require removing cabinets wall panels, etc. which I attempted but gave up on.

In another conversation with them I was told they did not have detail drawings of past models. I would think that they would have install blocking as a default. I tried using a stud finder to see if I could detect them being there but it was not sure enough to start drilling holes. And then it is my quess that they are indeed wood and then is it safe to just use lag bolts.

Endoscope cameras are about 1/4" diameter, this could be the route.

I installed the Fiamma Awning on 2013 Sprinter roof rails. Fiamma sells external brackets for many different RVs.

I had loose screws problem with awning on the fiberglass Bigfoot trailer. Factory installation failed, they used screws to fiberglass without any backing. I added hardwood backing with pronged tee nuts through cabinets.

Is your Roadtrek chassis metal or fiberglass? Do you have roof rails?

I removed the exterior awning brackets from my 2012 190P. The brackets were riveted on, not screwed. This suggests that the "blocks", if any, would not be wooden. RT also used a black mastic adhesive to "glue" the brackets on.
