you might point out that the lithium battery and it's systems have a much longer warranty on your van than the rest of it

EKKO appears to mimic European Semi-Integrated designs with external dimensions equal to or smaller than Class B vans. Total length will be less than Winnebago's Era van based on the Sprinter chassis.

Additional features are expected to include fully insulated four season plumbing and HVAC systems, insulated windows, and an enclosed rear gear garage suitable for bikes and other outdoor equipment.

Note this information is based on industry supply chain sources and may differ from the final WGO product.
Notice the Ecoboost looking at the Unity website has a fairly lightwight towing capacity. For many owners here, they tow smallish SUV's or cars behind their Vans

It looks like a Class B in Australia is a B+ or technically a small Class C in North America.

Class B in North America would be a Campervan or Van Conversion in Australia. Link: https://www.withoutahitch.com.au/car...me-categories/

Looking at your terminology, the EKKO would be a Campervan here. These are mainly VW based, but you do get Toyota Hi Ace versions. New Hi Ace is much larger than the older Van, so I would expect many more Campervans to be built on it. It has a ( non Atkinson cycle) 3.5 Petrol engine and a 2.8 Diesel

Interesting! What category would the Winnebago Trend Class C fall under in Australia?

Winnebago Class C.jpg

Is there any significance to the classes or categories in Australia to end users such as license requirements etc.? I think it's mostly for statistical purposes here such as tracking sales and unit production.

Trend would be a lowline Class C. Licences depend on weight. Up to 4995kg(11,000lbs) GvWR you can drive with a normal car licence, above that a basic Truck licence
There are as a rough estimate of 7 on road Motohome manufacturers. There are some smaller ones.as well
Add in 10 Off Road manufacturers using Japanese or European Truck, light MDT or HDT chassis. These are Expedition vehicles.
Yes also for statistical purposes the weight classifications are used.

RowieBowie,

The LTV Unity/Serenity/Wonder are Class B+ units rather than Class B, B+ now more accurately referred to as "B-Box", which are closer to Class C in size (and legally are called Class C since both are from a Cutaway chassis) So they are really motorhomes, not CamperVans. They're usually between 7.5 and 8 feet wide, over 10 feet tall, and 22 feet to gargantuan long.

By the way the comparable LTV to your Chevy chassis is a Libero. (I happen to be a 2008 Libero owner.) And the equivalent Airstream B-Box is an Atlas (Mercedes).

The two types of campers (B vs B+) are really not that directly comparable, though many of us in B-Boxes/B+'s either wanted more room than a B, or more maneuverability than a C or A.

Winnebago's EKKO is expected to be a European 'semi-integrated' style design that would be significantly smaller than any current LTV units. In particular the semi-integrated designs are narrower - just barely wider than the Transit cab section, along with being shorter than the LTV.

From an class perspective Winnebago refers to it as Class C, in line with RVIA market classifications. However it is smaller than any other current US class C units and even shorter than existing Class B designs on the Sprinter Ext chassis.

So... there is a move to drop the B+ and call them B-box? Seems vaguely more accurate.

But it still ain't a B. LOL

That is what ARV calls it as a model description. I don't know if they have registered the name as an exclusive. But it could be the next "Kleenex" if not.

A preview of the features available in compact semi-integrated units such as Winnebago's EKKO can be found in the ML-T models featured in Hymer USA's sneak peek release last fall. Although Coronavirus delayed Thor's plan to build a new European supervised Hymer factory in Bristol Indiana the basic product specs are available from Europe.

Hymer ML-T Semi-Integrated / Low Profile Recreational Vehicle
  • Compact design - Low profile with footprint similar to Class B campervan.
  • Short, maneuverable length: MLT-560 22ft; MLT-580 23ft
  • Sprinter Cutaway Chassis
  • Large 90+ cu ft enclosed rear gear garage
  • Permanent rear queen or twin beds (560 crosswise, 580 lengthwise)
  • Tall refrigerator for eye-level access
  • Compact dry bath with curved sliding door to isolate shower
  • Water and waste tanks within heated and insulated undercarriage
  • Truma integrated boiler/heater standard, Optional hydronic floor heat
In construction design it's a Class C, B-Box, or whatever. In size, equipment, efficiency, maneuverability and parking access it's clearly aimed at the campervan / Class B market demographic.

Unfortunately, I don’t think the 4wd option is offered on this in the US like it is in Europe, Mercedes has not been offering 4wd on the cutaway chassis over here.

I get emails from Winnebago and that showed up two weeks ago with the add to calendar option. They're building the excitement with that countdown!

Default Ekko 22a & 24c

Of the two new EKKO floorplans the 22A apparently a pop-top option. That's unusual for a Class C. AWD is apparently standard on both. And the pivoting euro-style sink/shower combo looks like an excellent use of space.

https://winnebago.com/models/product...s/class-c/ekko

EKKO is definitely going the B-Box appearance route versus the more rounded LTV designs. Thankfully no slideouts on the shorter 22A model (which is actually 23 ft).
