Default Future Projects & Brainstorming Ideas

This can be an idea thread. Do you have a Future Project in mind?

Start your own thread or use this one. Sometimes if we discuss an idea we might follow through with it.

I'll start this off.

I'd like to add some springs to help with raising and lowering my spare tire.

Spare Tire Carrier Springs

As you can see I have also started a thread for this idea.

Another project I'd like to do is to add a hitch mount Honda generator carrier. It would have to be lower than the bottom edge of the rear door so that I could still open the door.

I'll probably start a new topic for this one if I ever move forward with it.

We would like to find a small trailer (like maybe one of those little Scamp trailers) and build an office into it for Chino. Then we can go hang out on a beach somewhere for the winter. He can work, but I can still go drive around or buy groceries or whatever, without bothering him.

A 13' Scamp only weighs 1,000 lbs.

That would make a great office!

It's a new year so there must be some new projects coming up!

Does anyone have any projects planned?

For me:

1. install two new battery trays:

2. buy two batteries and put a Qwik Fill kit on them:

3. install two 40 watt solar panels on the roof

Default Future Projects & Brainstorming ideas

I just completed a project that I have been wanting to do on our RT 190V. I purchased an insulating material from Summit Racing that is made by Thermo-tec, that is a sound deadener & also insulates against heat or cold. It is light weight and pretty thin. Originally I decided to just do the lowered fiberglass floor area because while driving down the road the floor can get pretty hot from the vehical exhaust system. This heat does radiate into the passenger compartment and makes it harder to keep the area cool. Well, I did insulate the fiberglass floor as I planned, but as usual I couldnt stop there. I ended up doing every area of the exposed underside floor area I could get at. I also lowered the generator to get that area, and put a layer of the material along the top of the generator housing. I decided that if it worked as a noise blanket, it might really help to make things quieter while the generator was running. Then I noticed all of the exposed water lines running along the underside areas and decided to use the foam insulating sleeves that they make for home plumbing, to insulate every water line that was in an open or exposed area. Hopefully these projects will keep everything cooler in summer, warmer in winter & quieter during use while driving down the road or using the generator. I'll report on the outcome this summer to let you know if it was worth the effort.

We're thinking about getting a scooter to save on gas for short trips around town and if we do I want to be able to take it on the camper. I havent decided if I should mount it on the front or back, The back end seems like it is loaded down pretty well and I think it may get overloaded. I haven't weighed it yet I guess that will decide. But also if I mount it on the trailor hich in back I won't be able to open my back door when it is on.
Anyone haul a scooter or any tips on doing this?

My wife and I have have recumbent bikes: hers is a 96" long LWB and mines a 48" wide trike. I'm looking at a permanent bike rack for the rear that's tight, can be secured against theft, fairly aerodynamic and easy to mount and remove the bikes.

I'm thinking to use the spare wheel carrier as the base for the trike rack and the ladder as the base for the LWB rack: then the doors could open and close as well. A tight cover over the rear, when actually travelling, could protect the bikes and add a bit of aerodynamics for fuel consumption.

gig

Put a hitch on front of the vehicle. Also good for launching and recovering boats from the water. Purchase a hitch-mounted rack and leave it in place.

Check out http://www.harborfreight.com . They have a relatively inexpensive rack that should work. Hitches can be gotten anywhere.

I got the two battery holders installed this weekend. Now I have three group 24 batteries in parallel (285ah in total). I went with group 24's because that's all the the original battery tray could take and that's all my new trays could take.

I removed my "temporary" extra batteries and reclaimed that interior space by mounting a large plastic tub under that dinette seat.

I think I caught up on my to do list - time to go camping now

Snow on the ground again this morning though.....................

My Wife & I bought a Dodge 1997 2500 van, it's got a small raised top all redey on it. We're converting it into a class B motor home van. We did a 3,000 mile trip with it & made notes on what We want. We're going to use some old school & new school idea's.
We'll try to keep the forum up dated.

I am thinking of putting a remote electric switched regulator valve for the propane tank. Anyone know where I can get one and how much of a job it would be to put on the propane tank? The electrical side of it should not be all that hard.

I have always wanted a ladder on the back door. I would have no reason to use it, but they sure do look cool

I have a lot of ideas. If I wind up with a Travato, the water heater appears to be near the stove, so I could tee off the stove's propane line to install an on demand Atwood heater, which is a must, as Davydd is right about this. From there, I'd go to adding gauges (voltmeters on the house and chassis batteries), a permanently installed macerator pump with grey water bypass, and then work on the solar trailer idea.
