We use our microwave all the time. Except for popcorn which I make in a pot on the stove.
If you don't use your microwave, then you don't need it. But if you do, then you do. Each person has different needs. Think about what works best for you.

I'm much more likely to take out my stove and use the microwave instead.

anything that needs fire, I cook outside on a grill. We boil water with an electric kettle and an inverter. anything else, I tend to pre-cook the stuff at home and warm it up... so much easier and less messy.

Plus, our microwave is a surprisingly good convection oven as well.

Yep. The biggest virtue of a microwave is that you can start with a solid block of frozen homemade food, and end up with a delicious hot meal in short order. Doing the same on a stovetop takes advanced planning, which is not our forte.

We have a microwave that is not built into the cabinetry but just fits on a shelf. We have the option of taking it out if we want but haven't bothered as we do use it occasionally and as I previously mentioned it serves as a "bread" box for storage anyway. If I were to take it out I wouldn't put a door in as I would just put in soft rectangular storage baskets that are getting more popular in vans.

I got a microwave that died and I can’t figure out how to replace it. It sits in a 2008 Chevy road trek. Any thoughts?

The microwave sits on a sliding shelf.

IIRC, there are two screws that go up from the bottom of cabinet under the microwave that you remove and then the micro and the shelf under it will slide out.

It might be very hard to slide the shelf out, ours was for sure. Once you get it slid out, you will be able to see the plug behind the unit so you can unplug it. The back of the micro actually sits on the cut away part of the body in that area.

Thank you Booster
My problem has been resolved thanks to your info. And yes there was a bit of resistance to the shelf. I just needed some direction. Thanks again!!

That's what we do too. Prep at home and reheat.

Thanks for all the varied replies!

During our recent trip, we used the microwave probably 3 or 4 times to heat up water before putting it into the coffee maker which cuts down on the (already short) time it sits on the stove.

We prepare some meals too, but I do remember in the morning that I have to take something out of the freezer so it will be ready in a few minutes on the stove top.

I guess I am much more into cooking on the stove. I even baked bread four times using the Omnia camping oven on the stove.
However, I will leave the MW in place, it does do well as storage for plates and bowls, and if I ever need it, or want to sell the camper, it is there.
