Re: Mojovan progress
Test drive today, high speed RR tracks, pot holes etc... no noticeable movement of the AC, quite solid. Brace weighs about 4lbs.

Re: Mojovan progress
Photos of support beam, tv connection, lithium batteries, front floor mat. I've been spending hours cutting and forming the 1 1/2" gym foam to fit the floor. This will make up for the 1 5/8" lift of the seat swivels after its carpeted and provide sound proofing and insulation. I will use velcro to lock it in when done. Used razor knife, belt sander and electric turkey carving knife.

Re: Mojovan progress
Finished and installed the solar panel rack today. I'm currently connecting/framing the 4 solar panels to work with this mount. (4) 100 watt panels, 2 ea connected in series then parallel for 24v to MPPT controller.

Re: Mojovan progress

Re: Mojovan progress
Nice looking frame.
Welded aluminum?
How is it attached to the roof? Through bolts?

Re: Mojovan progress
Yes aluminum, the Promaster has pins in mounting points on the roof to connect racks with special mounting hardware. It just slips on and clamps on them.

Re: Mojovan progress
Very nice! How much expansion did you allow on the panels?

Re: Mojovan progress
The panels are connected with foam tape between them, the mounts will slip a bit with over sized bolt holes, everything made from aluminum. Hope I did enough.

Re: Mojovan progress
Nice custom work on the aluminum.
Half the van roof will be in the shade under the panels. That should help keep temperature in the van a bit lower than a van without any panels.

I have been trying to figure out all the expansion stuff as I was working on adding the extra panel to ours. The instructions say 2mm gap, but the instructions say that for almost all the panels, regardless of size, or orientation, so it is suspect to me. All the rules are kind of squishy. When we had two panels, I had them butted together tight, and they didn't break or bend. We wound up with about 1/16" gap. They were mounted on the bottom flange of the frame.
I do think the folks like AMSolar using the rather flimsy bracket may be getting benefit from them as they will flex enough. Also, Grape Solar would prefer mounting to the bottom flange of the panels, and that also would allow the panel frame to flex a bit without stressing the glass, even if the mounts are solid.
The worst case would probably be if the mounts were very solid, on the sides of the panel frames, and tall enough to overlap the glass area. This would lock in the glass, with no room to grow, with possible ugly outcomes.

Re: Mojovan progress
I have about a 1/8" gap with the double sided foam mounting tape I used. I coated the foam edges with some UV clear sealant. I'm hoping since its all made out of aluminum, it will all expand close to the same rate. I noticed during assembly, the panels are not perfectly square.

Re: Mojovan progress
Added this 40 watt panel dedicated to the engine battery to keep it up. I'll have a dual battery setup supplying the fridge and other 12v stuff while traveling. The other panels will be dedicated to the lithium battery pack.
