Re: 88 RoadTrek Wiring Cleanup

Thanks for the reply, booster, and the information about the wire sizes and amperage. I had not imagined 50 amps possible on that short run, but the 30 amp breaker I'm putting at the separator...

Re: 88 RoadTrek Wiring Cleanup

That's what the Roadtrek originally had - or, I should say that's what I found running from the battery isolator I found mounted under the vehicle battery tray. I assumed that it was the original...

Re: Engine restart concerns

Thanks for the replies, y'all. It makes sense to siphon out as much of the stuff that's in the tank before doing anything else. Proper (safe & legal) disposal may be an issue. That aside, I now...

Re: Engine restart concerns

Thanks, booster!

Did you mean that 15 months is NOT terribly long? From your context it seemed so. Sure it does have ethanol fuel - thanks Washington! I'd never thought of listening for the...

Engine restart concerns

My '88 RoadTrek's been sitting without a battery for about 15 months, and the time is near to get it running again. I'm just a day or so away from buying a new vehicle battery and lighting the fuel...

Re: 88 RoadTrek Wiring Cleanup

Progress report... I finally got to work on the MH before the Texas sun made the driveway unbearable today. Cut most of the rest of the dry-rotted engine compartment cloth tape harness wrapping and...

Re: What do you think of the CONCEPT of this?

The big rear hatch seems like the only improvement over mt '88 RoadTrek B on a Dodge B-250 chassis. Modern powertrain might well give better fuel economy. Unless I'm missing something.....

Re: SUGGESTED CHEVY CLASS B & C MODIFICATIONS

Great idea to use parts better than the "just good enough to get by" parts the makers use. Their priorities are just good enough to sell and drive off the lot!

Re: Interesting finds in '88 Dodge/RoadTrek

So many old vehicles (I'm also into classic musclecars) that have MAJOR problems due to lack of preventive maintenance. So many owners just run 'em 'til they break, then just fix what caused the...

Interesting finds in '88 Dodge/RoadTrek

In taking the old non-functional battery isolator out from under the battery tray, behind the driver's side headlight, several other issues have come to light. First and foremost is the condition of...

I think this is why.......

Pretty sure I've found the reason for the charging wiring kluge! I had been able to see the end of a big heat sink like those on solid state battery isolators, but access was impossible 'til I...

Re: 88 RoadTrek Wiring Cleanup

That's very informative and the leads for further research are helpful as well. Thank you markopolo. I found another approach that looks promising, eliminates replacing the original converter,...

Re: 88 RoadTrek Wiring Cleanup

Thanks, booster. I think the addition of a switch to disconnect the charger of the existing converter from the house battery would allow me to be connected to shore power to run the A/C and the...

Re: 88 RoadTrek Wiring Cleanup

Finding the converter was capable of boiling the battery dry, and that the P.O. had connected the vehicle and house batteries in parallel explained my two dead batteries and the warning (that I...

88 RoadTrek Wiring Cleanup

Been spending as much time as I can working on the RT wiring in the Texas Summertime heat. Averaging maybe 3-4 hours of actual work per day. My previous thread (fixed it til it was broke) was a...

Re: Fixed it 'til it was broke!

Thanks, Marco, and BIG thanks to Wilton for the diagram! The only wiring larger than the aforementioned 12 gauge green & white zip cord is what's on the alternator, vehicle charging and engine...

Re: Fixed it 'til it was broke!

I obviously need to do more research, and will do that today

Guess I wasn't clear in my description of my findings and beginning troubleshooting/repair steps. The major issue, in my opinion...

Fixed it 'til it was broke!

I'll bet I'm not the first, nor will I be the last to discover unknown, undocumented and seemingly pointless modifications to what was a perfectly good RV that most likely functioned as designed...

Re: Introduce Yourself

Unclebob, here, sayin' Howdy from Austin, Texas. My B is a '88 Roadtrek Dodge B-250 conversion and I'm just straightening out the previous owner's mystery modifications. I'll post about them in the...
