Yes, one has to account for the slope of the side. Drawers would work, but each level would need a custom fit. The depth on our wardrobe is 21.5" at the bottom and 15" @ 32".

I'm considering doing the same thing. The hanging closet seems to be a waste of space. Not sure yet if I will use lidded plastic containers on the shelves or a simple drawer system.
