I'd think about adding the lights... a couple of feet might not seem like much but I find that with the lights on at night people maintain a better following distance.

I carry a can of starting fluid in my boat because many more than one time it has failed to start at a bass tournament. Apparently the same problem as your genset, the gas drains out of the carbs.
