Re: Snow

Hi Ric,
Thanks for the comment. Yes, that was some adventure, but not one I want to repeat. I'm hoping for tamer ones in the future. :)

Your link didn't work but I found some info here about...

Re: Small portable heaters - what I learned this morning

Now that I have a bit more experience with this I thought I'd post an update. I found that if I let the heater "sit" for a while between bottles, instead of trying to restart it right away, it...

Re: Snow

Or was it "El Nino"? I always get the two confused.

Fleamarketeer, I'm looking for flea markets here, both for stuff I'm clearing out of this house (which is the house I grew up in) and for my...

Re: Snow

Well, I see that my old hometown of Denver is getting some of the white stuff. How thoughtful of it to wait until after I left :). Here in southeastern PA we've had only a little rain but no snow...

Re: Full-timing in the van - Meg

Hello again everyone, here's my update. This will be the last one because I'm no longer vandwelling. I've left Colorado and am staying with family in Pennsylvania for a while (just got here last...

Re: Full-timing in the van - Meg

To answer some of your questions - yes, I am recharging the house battery with the engine; I've done it 3 times already (the inverter has an alarm that lets me know when it gets low). I think I'm...

Re: Full-timing in the van - Meg

I just wanted to remind everyone that I don't need WIFI - I have Cricket's wireless and it works fine. Power has been an issue but is somewhat better now that I have an inverter. There's also a...

Re: Full-timing in the van - Meg

I went for a walk earlier today and stopped in Home Depot on the way back to ask about physical strength requirements. The two nice people I talked to said it shouldn't be a problem; there's always...

Re: Full-timing in the van - Meg

I did a search and found several news articles about this. They all basically said the same thing so they were probably from the same press release. Here's the one from the Huffington Post:...

Re: Full-timing in the van - Meg

I'm giving up on this search. Wal-Mart doesn't have anything, either online or in their stores, and the other places I've checked - including Bass Pro/Outdoor World earlier today - don't either. But...

Re: Full-timing in the van - Meg

Cherry, I'm currently parked in a Walmart parking lot and there is in-store pickup available here. But I can't find this heater, or anything like it, on Walmart's website and I've been looking for...

Re: Full-timing in the van - Meg

Thank you all for your suggestions; I don't think I need any more for cooking/hot water. If I can find an immersion heater I'll probably go with that, otherwise I'll probably just start asking for...

Re: E Series Van dies

To lose the E-series, that's major. The Transits look smaller to me - at least the ones I've seen around here are - so I'm not sure they're a good substitute. The Sprinters are bigger but they don't...

Re: Snow

We had a couple of inches here in Denver yesterday, along with really cold temps - it was in the single digits last night, not fun in a van. We also had about the same last Saturday night into...

Re: Full-timing in the van - Meg

Here's what the stove looks like:

(it says it's out of stock but there are plenty even in this store)

It's designed...

Re: Full-timing in the van - Meg

Cherry, the van does have a cigarette lighter; I have a cell phone charger and used it for that. The problem is, I can't find a 12v (or even a 120v) immersion heater locally and mail order is not an...

Re: Full-timing in the van - Meg

An immersion heater, yes - that's what I was thinking of. I haven't seen anything like it in "my" Wal-Mart but maybe the truck stop would have something; I'll have to see if I can make another trip...

Re: Full-timing in the van - Meg

Yes, it has a low battery indicator and an audible alarm, and (I think) an automatic shutoff as well. I wish I could have gotten one with a digital readout, I would have been able to monitor it more...

Re: Full-timing in the van - Meg

Update: I have an inverter.

It's 750 watts and I got it at a local truck stop that my Wal-Mart "neighbor" Paul took me to yesterday; they have slightly better prices than anyone else. We connected...

Re: Believe it or not, this is an air conditioner

Wow - that's the prettiest air conditioner I've ever seen. It says you can customize the panel but I kind of like the one that's there.

Re: How to raise futon frame

Actually, I don't need this information anymore - I did get the frame raised but it wouldn't fit in the van, even in "couch" position, so I gave it to a local thrift store. But thank you to everyone...

Small portable heaters - what I learned this morning

Last Sunday I traded my inadequate catalytic heater for a Mr. Heater Portable Buddy. It's not the same kind of heater; it actually has a pilot that gets lit. But it had higher BTUs and did a better...

Marko, thanks for moving this to a new thread; I'm seeing some posts here I missed before.

Fulltiming in the van - Meg

Actually, I did try setting it up that way with my cell phone's address but the messages were too long - the phone cuts them off at somewhere around 140 characters - so it's really not working well....

Re: How to raise futon frame

You all are talking about me behind my back. :)

I don't have a lot of time for updates but I just sent marko an email (didn't think to check forum until now). I think I may have more internet...
