Re: 2014 Winnebago Travato

The existing, going upscale, losing market share, models are hitting the $140K level now. It is really amazing that a new model can be 1/2 of that.

The families that we see at the places we go...

Re: 2014 Winnebago Travato

I agree, should be good for everyone. It will be very interesting to see if the lower cost units put a wake up call on the manufacturers that have been running the race to the top on price and...

Re: 2014 Winnebago Travato

Does the existing water heater have a vented cover, or would the side of the van need to be cut for it? Our Suburban just has the vented cover, requiring a big opening. If it had a small two pipe,...

Re: 2014 Winnebago Travato

Do any of the inline water heaters pull low enough power to run off the van alternator or alternator through an inverter? Most places, you could get away with the van running for 5 minutes pretty...

Re: 2014 Winnebago Travato

When we were looking in 2005-2008, we found all the Sprinters to have basically the same "feel" to the seats, whether they had been reupholstered, or not.

In the Chevies, the Pleasureway and...

Re: First Travato Still Pic Video

It is built on a new chassis, a different floor plan, with a bunch of different equipment and features, which almost guarantees a lot of love/hate thoughts from folks.

It kind of reminds me of all...

Re: First Travato Still Pic Video

I think that bed is only 46" wide, which is probably one of the weakest points of the design, so sleeping across would mean severe fetal position, I think :P

Re: Winnebago Travato

"Is the Ecotec and the EcoBoost the same?

OOps, too many ECOs to deal with. Ecotec is a GM engine, probably named to compete with the Ford Ecoboost. The name showed up while I was looking at...

Re: Winnebago Travato

The newer Chevies aren't as good as the older ones, which I think started in 2003, but still not bad, and with the new 6 speed transmission, they get mileage that approaches the last generation 3.0...

Re: Winnebago Travato

I bet he would notice the difference. 735 down to 425 torque is a lot, and both those numbers makes most of the B engines seem wimpy, both gas and diesel.

Re: Winnebago Travato

Here is a curve for a 6.7 liter Ford turbo diesel. If I want to move that van around decently, this is what I want. 735 ft-lbs from 1600 to 3000rpm and 500 at 1000rpm. From the shape of the curve,...

Re: Winnebago Travato

The chart is for the 300hp/360tq 6.0 that GM used after the change from the 5.7. It is what is in our 07. In 08 or 09, I think, they went to the the variable valve timing model of the engine and it...

Re: Winnebago Travato

Here is something that was in a post on another board some time ago in a discussion of Sprinter, old 6.0 and new 6.0 Chevy.

" The old I5 Sprinter diesel had max torque of 243 foot pounds at 1600...

Re: Winnebago Travato

From the link

"Gas engine is standard. 3.6L V6, 260 HP at 6,400 RPM. Torque 258 lb/ft at 4,175 RPM. Transmission 6-speed automatic."

Not a 4 cylinder gas engine, but a quite powerful V6.

The...

Re: Winnebago Travato

Hi Mike,

As I said in another thread, I don't think I would get all hung up on the gas vs diesel torque numbers, in relation to power, especially if the there is a big price advantage to the gas...

Re: Winnebago Travato

We have been sitting around BSing about what we like and don't in the Travato floorplan, in relation to how we travel. That is only two people, prefer permanent bed, maximize storage, big bath not...

Re: Winnebago Travato

Thanks for the floor plan Marco. 46" wide bed is awfully narrow, I think a full size is 54" wide, and we find that a bit tight when we are on one (use queen at home). Plus it is narrower at the...

Re: Winnebago Travato

In that video, it looks like the rear door has glass in it, at least from the inside. Hard to tell about from outside.

Re: Winnebago Travato

For us "non big bathroom" folks, it would be really slick if it had the toilet facing the aisle right at the bath entrance, and the rest of the bathroom as storage accessible from the rear door. That...

Re: Winnebago Travato

It will be very interesting indeed, and probably survival of the fittest, too. With more van choices, and more new models to chose from, I think we will quickly learn just how big, or small, the B...

Re: Winnebago Travato

I also like the bikes inside capabilities. They get filthy outside when traveling with them on the back, and are prone to disappear, too. The higher quality the bike, the bigger both issues become....

Interesting to hear folks comments on the windows. We do like Marco and cook and live outside as much as possible, but I think we would miss the rear windows a lot (but have never tried one...

Re: Winnebago Travato

I am with you on the window thing. It looks like the entire rear just has one little window, which would make it very cave like. The first B we looked at was a Vista Cruiser with the permanent bed...

Re: Winnebago Travato

I would think that would be without mirrors, as it is the same as the Sprinters. I think the Chevies are 7 feet without mirrors. They all go quite a bit bigger with mirrors.

Re: Winnebago Travato

The gross weight spec would indicate single rear wheels, and thus the low cargo capacity.
