Re: How "smart" are smart chargers
The parts finally showed up so I could reprogram the Morningstar Sunsaver MPPT solar controller. You need Morningstar's adapter, a 6 wire "phone" style cable, and an RS232 printer cable, if you still...

Re: How "smart" are smart chargers
I tried one last attempt to fool the Tripp-lite into actually charging the batteries full, and it resisted it completely. I jumpered the separator and turned on the headlights before plugging into...

Re: How "smart" are smart chargers
The Blue Sea charger has a user programmable profile, so I should be able to put in the Trojan recommended 14.8 absorption and 13.2 float into that profile. If for some reason I want to go to the...

Re: How "smart" are smart chargers
I just spoke with the guy at Blue Sea, and he says that their chargers will go through the entire charge cycle when plugged in, and not just kick to float based on voltage from the solar or surface...

Re: How "smart" are smart chargers
Interesting discussion, albeit a tad complicated ...
Does the Tripplite 750 have a way (via their complex remote readout/switch) to force equalization?
Thx, Dick[/quote]
It doesn't appear...

Re: How "smart" are smart chargers
Amazon is really nice around Christmas time as they ship right away even with the free shipping option. My box of battery disconnects showed up yesterday.
I got the side terminal style...

Re: How "smart" are smart chargers
I have no idea where they came up with the "rules" for charger size. They say 10-13% of bank capacity, which is pretty low, compared to what I would think. A 400AH bank taken to 20% state of charge...

Re: How "smart" are smart chargers
Definitely a concern. From what I have read, they will get charged but take a lot longer. Not sure if they get to 100% on 14.4v. The chargers do have an equalize, so that could be used for a top off...

Re: How "smart" are smart chargers
Looks like CTEK now has a 25 amp version of their charger. If it works like the smaller one, it would be possible to use two of them, one for each bank. They have done a better job of explaining...

Re: How "smart" are smart chargers
This is the "float charging"
Your voltages are pretty low compared to most chargers. The "typical" is now a constant current current bulk charge that has the voltage increasing until it gets to...

Re: How "smart" are smart chargers
The more I read and experiment, the more I think this could be a major issue with way the chargers function. The CTEK seems to be the only one I have seen, or heard of, that will go into charge mode...

How "smart" are smart chargers
Marko may want to move this to one of the other charging system discussions, but it may be get some extra feedback here, too.
I have been testing and trying to figure out why we don't get a full...
