i've seen posts on rv.net aboutpeople adding a battery to excel. usually in the rear storagecompartment with linked batteries.

it was said on the roadtrekking blog question page that roadtrek stopped letting the onan charge batteries BECAUSE of problems with the inverter/charger.
however the new onan came out in january...

all i can say is that roadtrek began having this issue with the newer Onan. other than that i have no idea.
