I think gel (AGM) batteries us different charging voltages and protocols. I'm not familiar with them but I suppose it it possible that is the problem. A charger/regulator set up for gels...

Odd.

So something is drawing a whole lot of power for a few seconds, shutting itself off and then restarting....

I'd try markopolo's suggestion. Since the battery is the new kid on the block,...
