That's a good solve for you - I like it! Don't think that will work on my van though - mine are Mercedes-Benz standard dual rear mudflaps.

Mud flap melted onto exhaust

Pic of the exhaust pipe and mud flap. The flap is securely attached, as is the exhaust pipe. Catching on something seems to be the only reason this could have happened.
