I think the point of the guy from the boat industry was that they aren't always reliable, its not obvious when they aren't and the damage to your batteries can be substantial when they are wrong....

Of course I do - four idiot lights over the door. :) When four are on its either charging or fully charged, when it drops to three lights it is at about 75%, when it gets to 2 lights you are around...
