The challenge here as Larry stated is that the 150A BMS goes offline because the output from the 280A alternator exceeds what the BMS is intended to handle.

I think he opted to try using a 60A...

"batt, new" looks correct to me. The DC2DC shouldn't let current drain back into the AGM from the Lifepo4.

There shouldn't be reverse current through the Renogy unit assuming that the AGM is on the Renogy input and the Lithium battery is on the Renogy output. Are you seeing that or just thinking that...

It would be better to not use the isolator when switching to a DC-DC unit. Alternately, it could remain in place but be bypassed by moving the chassis & house lugs to the alternator terminal on the...

Your PW likely has an isolator (diode based isolator). Your understanding is correct when/if using an isolator. They're single input to multiple outputs. Input to Output is not isolated in the...

Connecting the alternator to the DC-DC input...

Connecting the alternator to the DC-DC input causes the alternator to not see a reference voltage because the Renogy DC-DC input and output terminals are isolated.

This note was in the previous...

That Renogy unit is a B2B type, "Battery to Battery", so it's placed between two batteries. Also, a common chassis ground is used.

They have a continuous current rating. Use a 150A BMS for up to 150A continuous current, use a 200A BMS for up to 200A continuous current etc.

My preference would be to oversize the BMS capacity...

14.4V/14.3V would effectively get the battery to 100%. 13.8V can result in a near fully charged LFP battery, maybe 97% or 98%, so that lower voltage regulator looks like a good option. The existing...

Larry's BMS did exactly what it was programed to do and, in this case, was to prevent its own failure due to overcurrent. The BMS was fine and would resume passing current as soon as overcurrent...

That's a safe option for now particularly if some of the wiring is only 4AWG as mentioned in post #9. At full output, a 60A dc-dc unit might need 80A on the input.

Boosters idea of using a Balmar with the turn down option does look to be the most cost effective. Maybe 1500W or so potential inverter output with that solution so it should be able to run the air...

The RT seems to be one without a Balmar. Probably similar to forum member Yoshimura's RT. Alternator voltage set point at 14.7 volts.

An option is to keep the original setup: UHG to AGM to...
