I agree with this, but I think that such damage is largely limited to the interior and (in the South) tires. Proper window shades and tire covers will deal with this.

Up to you, but in the opinion of many, covers do more harm than good. The trap grit and then grind it into the paint when it is windy. Cold and snow are more likely to help your paint than to harm...
