As it turned out, a water line had come loose...

As it turned out, a water line had come loose from a clamp and had a hole rubbed in it. Once repaired, the pump has worked great for this entire year.

It did work fine. I have to think that having it run dry may have contributed to its demise even though Shurflo indicates it can be run dry.
