Just wanted to follow up on this one.

I ended up removing the velcro and went with an 84" adjustable spring rod. The curtain had to be re-hemmed so that the rod would fit inside the hem...

I did have a few projects over the weekend. Hung a curtain and fitted some tubes and door edge guards.
