Hi all!
I removed the failing plastic cover on the metal seam for RT's roof and have ordered new plastic cover to replace it.My questions are:
1. Besides a good cleaning, what else should I do before sealing and installing the new cover strip?
2. Should I use sealant/chaulk to the seam and screws?
3. What type of sealant?
4. Where exactly do I put the sealant, on the screw heads? along the channel strip top? Before or after I install the plastic cover/ or both?
I've never done this and would appreciate some advice from those who have,
Thanks!
Ed

They make a special sealer for RV roofs but not sure if it comparable with yours or not, you will need to check. I used a self leveling version on my roof, but the other type is more like caulking. Both are fairly expensive but excellent. Rv dealers carry, around here Menards has the self leveling.

Dicor sealant is used a lot by the folks owning RVs. You can get it in self leveling or regular varieties. We had a couple of Class Cs and they required quite a bit of seam maintenance and this was the go to and recommended product. You can pick it up at Camping World or Amazon.

I installed solar panels on top of our C and used it to seal the screws around the mounts and in ten years it never failed. The secret is clean, Clean and then REALLY CLEAN the area you will be sealing. Prep is everything for success in using this product. It skims over fairly quickly but will take several days to completely cure. I always assume the long cure time was the secret as to why it works so well.
