1999 Popular Generator Exhauxt Pipe

Something to keep in mind. My RT has the generator exhaust pipe exiting out the drivers side. I believe it is because the awning is on the passenger side and that side is where we normally are.

Makes more sense than on the passenger side, but that is where ours exits.

There is a screen in the generator tail pipe right as it comes out of the generator muffler that is the approved spark-arrestor. From my personal experience, you are right about the change in sound provided by the resonator. However, I don't see how adding the resonator aft of the spark-arrestor would violate the national forest rules.
Question...I don’t see a spark arrestor...trying to attach a photo...getting ready to have an exhaust added to the generator, so wondering if I need to get a spark arrestor..(where?) before adding the exhaust pipe?? Thanks!!

I only mentioned the spark arrestor in the off chance your exhaust had been previously molested which contributed to the exahaust falling off. Most likely the support broke and was the cause. Not that unusual.

The Onan muffler should be the "outside" pipe wall. The spark arrester (just a screen to comply with spark prevention/fire prevention) should be the inner wall. About impossible to get a camera to focus on both the outside and inside of the exhaust so hard to tell what's up there. But since it appears you have a double wall, I assume that insert (second wall) is the spark arrestor.

If you feel around it, do you feel a small bolt that holds the arrestor inside the muffler? Looks llike I see threads from a bolt on the right side of your pic. You're probably good to go. I never was able to see up inside either as the screen is way up there.

Just a thought: it may be possible to use a 1 1/4 inch electrical conduit bender. Not too expensive...but it does take some experience to use.

Bringing this one back. I just received the Onan resonator for my Avenue but am considering adding a second. I found a traditional muffler that would fit but I'm sure that would reduce the output of the engine. I'd also like to have a temporary extension, like a flexible ducting to get fumes away from the van when parked.

Show us what you've done to quiet your generator!
