On our route 66 trip last year, we boondocked in probably the only place in Arizona that had mosquitos, but didn't know it until too late. Just after dusk, there were a LOT of mosquitos in the camper, and it seems that the top of the rear window screens on the sides of the vehicle had a gap to the window frame at the top of the screen. I took some duct tape and this held the screens tighter to the window frame.

Looking at the screen, it appears there's two screws adjacent to the window crank that hold the screen in. I was going to take the screen out and look closer at this, but the screws for the screen are screwed in from the outside, and the arms for opening the lower portion of the window are in the way to access the screws.

Anyone know how to get to these screws and get the screen out, and any thoughts on what to do to seal the gap up? I was thinking some felt put on the backside of the screen then reinstall, but ?

Is your window crank assembly screwed on or installed with rivets. Mine was attached with rivets and I had to drill them out from the inside to remove it. I did not remove the screen. I was just replacing the crank mechanism.

DaveBad, I've got to say, You're the man! Your asking how to get the crank assembly out caused me to run back out there today and look closer at it because from the pictures I had of the interior, I couldn't see how you'd get the assembly out. I was taking pictures of the outside of the crank/window under and thru the glass trying to figure out where the screws or rivets were that would hold the crank assembly in the window. Then I noticed a couple things, then noticed velcro on the back side of the screen. Yep, the screens were held in by velcro. I should have known better.

But, since I was out there and got pictures, my crank assemblied are held in by screws. The same screws I thought held the screen assembly in the window. I'm posting pictures for others to see, but the same question would come up on how to get access to the screws to get the crank assembly out if you had to. The bottom of the window only comes out just far enough to get a phone in there to get pictures, and the arms would still be in the way of accessing those screws if one would need to take the crank assembly out. The pictures below show the assembly with the window opened to the maximum it will open, but it appears that there's still more threads where the arms could open more.

I don't think that the screws hold the screen. Look at the left hand screw: there is a Tinnerman nut behind and it looks like the purpose is to hold the window mechanism in place.
