2015 RT 190 Chevy Chassis 3500 drivers seat peeling/flaking

The grey cloth reupholstery covers we ordered showed up today.

They look and feel like they are quite high quality of materials and shape and sewing looks good. They are also foam lined like OEM is.

I haven't actually seen the Chinese versions which are 1/2 or less the cost, but based on past experience I would expect much low quality materials.

I hope the get at least one cover on before our fall trip to see the fit and feel of them.

my drivers seat is peeling/flaking. It's my understanding the seats were not the same as the standard Chevy seats. Has anyone had success buying new covers that will fit these seats? (BTW, it's only the drivers seat that has done this. New purchase and no understanding why this happened) TY!

This is common in Roadtreks - the seats are NOT standard Chevy seats - Roadtrek sent the seats out to an upholsterer near the RT factory to be redone. The standard seat is not a high back seat and the headrest is movable in the original Chevy Express. What they used to cover the seat is a thin veneer of leather adhered to cloth backing. The seats in my 11C190P started peeling in year 4 or five. The driver's seat peeled first. Then the next year the passenger seat peeled. Now the third seat is peeling. I bought van/truck high back seat covers in Walmart and covered the two front seats. The covers fit and have held up now longer than the original seat covering did. I saw a post on Facebook where one Chevy Roadtrek owner said that under the peeling "leather" was a usable cloth seat and helped it along to peel and now uses the cloth seat as it is. I have begun to do that with the third seat.

The consensus is that they are reupholstered high back factory GM seats. You can see pictures of used vans with a Google search and see lots of high back stock seats in both cloth and vinyl.

The leather is not leather at all as it is "Ultraleather" which is veneer polyurethane. It would be called a PU leather if not by brand name. So it is not even as high quality as a real veneer leather would be, and even real veneer leather is known to peel.

Once all the cap layer of urethane it gone, you are left with, normally, a kind of off white fabric backer that looks a bit like burlap but lighter in color. I have seen peeling ones that showed it, but never one where it has all been exposed. It is interesting as nobody really knows how that will hold up to wear and sunlight, but it is a zero cost experiment to run.
