2016 Chinook Class B

Interesting. I always wanted a new Chinook, but never could afford one. With that price it looks like I still can't :) .

it's a name, somebody bought the rights to use it.
The hallmark of the Chinook was the 1 piece fiberglass "hull-like" structure.

this appears to have same relationship to the original chinook as I do. None

But it's good to have another option on the market.

The price and styling is clearly in line with their target customer, someone who wants what at least appears to be a luxury vehicle and that sends the message I got the money it takes to have one of these glitzy toys...

Not my cup of tea even at a much lower price...

Not quite as glitzy as a Trump residence or a Newell motor coach but almost getting there...

Comparing the new Chinook to the original seems like apples vs oranges to me. My impression of the original Chinook is functional design with high quality construction but no luxury fluff you see on the new version. Closest thing I see to the original these days would be something on the order of the Hymer Ml-T also available in 4WD...

My dealer carries these units. Definately not my cup of tea. You can easily tell Midwest's background in making limos.

Price-wise they aren't terrible - MSRP is on par with Era. Transaction prices may be another matter. So far the units he has are languishing on the lot.

those "older" Chinooks i.e. before the Sprinter copout. have dual rear tires ,,, is it that much heavier. I am reading they only get 10 mpg...ouch .... just love those "ole" Chinook lines... Ford V10 is a guzzler in whatever you put it in? It must be a weight issue....but it is not much more roomier than a Pleasureway van.

Most of the old Chevy/Ford big block Class C and Class B+ RV get 8 to 10 MPG. That is just life; they don't get much better even with an empty chassis.

Weight makes a difference overcoming gravity and inertia. Otherwise, weight makes little difference cruising on flat ground.

ok, then I am guessing the Chinook could get by without the "duelly" tires ,,,which would reduce some drag. but surely the DOT has some input into this equation :)

Those "older" Chinooks are very well built.

Well built = solid fiberglass, solid wood cabinetry.

I know. and I want one so bad I can taste it....but 10 mpg............... compare it to a wide camper van without the Duelly tires. I bet the average Coachman wide or Pleasureway gets at least 14-15. is that a reach? the V10 does better on gas milage than some modern v8s.

Well... you can buy a new rig that gives you 17 MPG,

or buy an old rig that gives you 10 MPG.

If you drive across the continent, say, 3,000 miles.

The new rig will consume 176 gal. At @$2.50/gal, that's $441.

The old rig will consume 300 gal. At @$2.50/gal, that's $750.

A difference of $300.

I don't think it is a deal breaker.

BBQ I love your argument. what's even cooler is my wife is sitting next to me as I read it aloud. we had a Duramax truck and pulled a trailer,,,, yuk!. she likes power and gas milage and does all the driving... wish they put a Duramax engine in a Class B. thanks for your input!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
