A few more tests of new Isotherm frig

2013 Pleasure Way Excel. I replaced my Dominic 3-way with an Isotherm 115. The first 6 months of use it got a lot of frost/ice build up in the freezer area and it seemed to struggle staying below 40 in the fridge area when in a very hot/humid climate. This spring I took it out and reset it, making sure the fridge was firmly anchored and as level as possible in the opening, and adjusted the door so it closed a little easier. It is a very tight fit in the Excel and I suspect the fridge was not anchored in correctly causing the door to flex. Since then, I've not had any issues. BTW, I upgraded to a BB 270AmpHr LiPo with a 100 Watt solar panel on the roof and two portable solar panes as required. I also have a generator to use if solar or driving isn't available. Power has not been an issue.

While reading this thread, a random thought ovccurred to me. There are fridges with the compressor as a separate unit. What if the compressor were mounted under the van—away from engine and exhaust? While driving, the air flow should be stupendous. When parked, under the van is likely to be cooler than inside. Just a thought…

They make some like that for marine applications so the compressor can be moved away because of space issues probably.

IMO, way to fragile to be underneath, but they do have underbody AC units so probably possible if you could keep it clean enough.

Underbodies while driving tend to be hotter than inside the van because of engine, transmission, exhaust heat all dumping there.
