About to Purchase 1st Class B. Roadtrek Zion SRT. Good Choice?

Please give us your opinion on this particular Class B. We really like the look and features of it. Please give us your ideas and opinions on this. We have lots of 3-4 day weekend trips we want to take and later some long ones. We do t want to wait much longer in life cause we want the energy to enjoy this. Thanks!

You are on the right track, do that research and don't rely on the "info" a Dealer gives us, ha! This is the very best Forum.....the info and help is always there. Ron

Zion is Good Choice

After a long search, we had settled on a new Zion. We liked the under-hood generator, solar panel and floor plan with the open back along with screens on both the side door and back. When talking to the sales person about whether it made sense to buy to spec or the one they had in stock, we mentioned that there was a used 2015 Roadtrek RS we were going to take a last look at before finalizing the decision. It was about the same price as the new Zion. He said if we could get the used one for the same price, we should take it. Unfortunately, it lacked the under-hood generator.

Then a used 2015 Roadtrek Etrek turned up for the same price. It has the under hood generator, solar panels, is all electric with 8 AGM batteries, diesel heat and had the Mercedes Sprinter diesel chassis. So we bought it. Its downside is that it is much larger than the Zion and lacks the screen on the side door.

We are happy with our purchase, but would also have been happy with the Zion. If the Etrek turns out to be more than we need, we would certainly consider getting one in the future.

Enjoy your Etrek. I used to think the lithium Etrek was the was to go, but after reading about their problems, your AGM version may be the best version. Your batteries will not charge as quickly, but with so many, you should have plenty of 12v power. I'm jealous.

The SRT is a perfect length (20') for fitting into everyday parking spaces. Zion is the top Roadtrek brand on the Promaster chassis. Great choice but it does have 1 quirk. The water heater is tankless which means you have to waste 1 minute of water every time. Many with a Zion therefore use cold water where they would prefer hot. Frustrating in a premium model.

I think the best sub $100k class B out there right now is the Coachmen Crossfit. They've really taken the B van segment to a new level, for the price point. Roadtrek has way too many build quality issues, based on my research, but Coachmen seems to be pretty solid.

My only suggestion would be to consider the full sized one versus the SRT. That extra foot in length makes a world of difference in storage, comfort, etc. and I have found it does not have any affect on the parking ability. Also, research what a good final price should be. You will be surprised how much the dealers will discount off MSRP. In addition, consider joining the Roadtrek group on Facebook. They are a wealth of information on everything from service issues to modifications to accessories and places to visit. Good much and enjoy your RV.
